هو: استَمِع الىَ هَذِهِ المُحادثَة

Instructor: the national museum

هو: استَمِع

هو: سارة.. هَل رَأيتِ نَظَارتي ؟

هي: لا.. لَكِن ما رَأيُكَ أن نذهبَ إلى الحديقةِ العامّة ؟

هو: نعم... نَستَطيعُ أن نَذهَبَ إلي الحَديقَةِ العَامَة

هي: أنا لم أرى الَمُتحَفَ الوَطنيّ بَعد .. ما رأيُكَ أن نَذهَبَ إلى الَمُتحَفِ فيما بعد ؟ 

هو: هَذهِ فِكرَةٌ جَيدة .. لَكِن أريدُ أن أبحَثُ عن نَظَارتي أولا ً

هو: استَمِع الى هَذهِ المحادَثةِ مرةً اخرى

هو: سارة.. هَل رَأيتِ نَظَارتي ؟

هي: لا.. لَكِن ما رَأيُكَ أن نذهبَ إلى الحديقةِ العامّة ؟

هو: نعم... نَستَطيعُ أن نَذهَبَ إلي الحَديقَةِ العَامَة

هي: أنا لم أرى الَمُتحَفَ الوَطنيّ بَعد .. ما رأيُكَ أن نَذهَبَ إلى الَمُتحَفِ فيما بعد ؟ 

هو: هَذهِ فِكرَةٌ جَيدة .. لَكِن أريدُ أن أبحَثُ عن نَظَارتي أولا ً

Instructor: imagine that you and your wife are at home

in Damascus; ask her have you seen my glasses?

هو:هَل رَأيتِ نَظَارتي ؟

Instructor: tell her I bought a nice book

هو: اشَتَريتُ كِتابًا جَيدًا

هو: كِتاب جَيد

Instructor: but I can’t read without my glasses

هو: لَكِن لا أستَطيعُ أن أقرأَ بِدون نَظَارتي

Instructor: your wife has pictures of her sister’s new place,

she says “at her apartment there is a pretty garden in the back”

هي: توجَد في شَقِتها حَديقَةٌ صَغيرةٌ في الخَلف

Instructor: you want to see the pictures, how do

you” I’m looking for my glasses”

هو: أنا أبحَثُ عن نَظَارتي

Instructor: your wife hands you, your glasses and

says” they were under the newspaper”

هي: كَانوا تَحتَ الجَريدَة

Instructor: referring to a photo she says my

sister’s place is big but

هي: بَيتُ أُختي كَبير ... لكِن

Instructor: at her apartment the garden is very small.

هي: في شَقِتها الحَديقة صغيرةٌ جِدا ً

Instructor: she has a garden in the back

هي: لَديها حَديقَةٌ في الخَلف

Instructor: you agree saying, her apartment isn’t small

هو: شَقتُها لَيسَت صَغيرة

هو: شَقتُها

Instructor: but this garden is very small.

هو: لَكِن هَذهِ الحَديقَةِ صغيرةٌ جدًا

هو: لَكِن هَذهِ الحَديقةِ صغيرةُ جدًا

Instructor: now you and your wife are visiting a friend of hers,

how do you say to her female friend

“your apartment is very pretty?”

هو: شَقَتُكِ جَميلَةٌ جِدا ً

Instructor: do you park in front of the street

هو: هَل تَقفين بالسيارةِ أمامَ الشَارِع ؟

Instructor: she tells you yes in the front, not in the back

هي: نَعَم في الأمَام لَيسَ في الخَلف

Instructor: today my car is in front of the street

هي: اليَوم سَيارَتي أمامَ الشَارِع

هو: اسأل

Instructor: why don’t you park in the back of your apartment?

هو: لِماَذا لا تَقفينَ خلفَ شَقِتِكِ ؟

Instructor: she tells you there is a small garden in the back

هي: توجَد حَديقَةٌ صَغيرةٌ في الخَلف

Instructor: now you suggest, how about we have a walk?

هو: مَا رأيُكِ أن نَسيرَ على الأقدام ؟

Instructor: she answers; we can have a walk to the public park

هي: نَستَطيعُ أن نَسيرَ إلى الحَديقَةِ العَامّة

Instructor: and later we can go to the museum

هي: وبَعدها سَنذهَبُ إلى المُتحَف

هو: هي تَقُول مَرة أُخرى

Instructor: we can have a walk to the public park

هي: نَستَطيعُ أن نَسيرَ إلى الحَديقَةِ العَامّة

Instructor: ask her, do you know

هو: هَل تَعرِفين ؟

Instructor: Do you know if they accept the master card

هو: بِطاقَة مَاستَر كَارد

هو: هَل تَعرفينَ اذا كانوا يَقبلون بِطاقَةَ مَاستَر كَارد

Instructor: at the museum

هو: في المُتحَف ؟

هو: في المُتحَف ؟

Instructor: she answers yes I think so, why?

هي: نَعَم أعتَقِد ذَلِك, لِماذَا ؟

Instructor: referring to the tickets, say I want to buy them

هو: أُريدُ أن أشتَريَهُم

هو: أشتَريَهُم

هو: قَل

Instructor: I can pay for the tickets by a credit card

هو: أستَطِيعُ أن أدفَعَ التَذاكِرَ ببِطاقَةِ الائتِمان

Instructor: if they accept the master card

هو: اذا كانوا يَقبلون بِطاقَةَ مَاستَر كَارد

هو: قُل

Instructor: I want to buy them

هو: أُريدُ أن أشتَريَهُم

Instructor: I must call the museum.

هو: لابُدّ أن أتَصِلَ بالمُتحَف

هو: بالَمُتحَف... لابدّ أن اتصّل بالمُتحَف.

Instructor: your wife wants to suggest you to call
them, first here the word “you call” when speaking to a man

هو: استَمِع  وأعِد

هي: أنت تَتَصِل .. تتَصِل

هي: أنت تَتَصِل

Instructor: now here is the word for “them”

هو: استَمِع  وأعِد

هي: بِهِم ..هِم

هي: بِهِم

Instructor: how would your wife suggest why don’t you call them?

هي: لِماذا لَا تَتَصِل بِهِم؟

هي: لِماذا لَا تَتَصِل بِهِم؟

هو: قُل

Instructor: I want to pay for the tickets by credit card 

هو: أريدُ أن أدفَعَ التَذاكِرَ ببِطاقَةِ الائتِمان

Instructor: I can call them now

هو: أستطَيعُ أن أتَصِلَ بِهِم الأن 

هو: بِهِم

هو: أسال

Instructor: where are my glasses?

هو: أينَ نَظَارتي ؟

Instructor: you ask:" until when the museum is open?"

هو: استَمِع  وأعِد

هو: إلى مَتى المُتحَفُ مَفتوح؟

هو: مَفتوح

هو: إلى مَتى الَمُتحَفُ مَفتوح؟

Instructor: your wife says “I don’t know why don’t you call them”?

هي: لا أعرِفُ.. لِماذا لَا تَتَصِل بِهِم؟

Instructor: she says I think it’s open until six today

هي: أعتقدُ أنه مفتوحٌ إلى السَاعةِ السَادِسةِ اليَوم

Instructor: but why don’t you call

هي: لَكِن لِماذا لَا تَتَصِل بِهِم؟

هي: لَكِن لِماذا لَا تَتَصِل ؟

هو: قُل

Instructor: we have enough time

هو: لَدينا وَقتُ كَافي

Instructor: we can go to the public park and the museum

هو: نَستَطيعُ أن نذهَبَ إلى الحَديقَةِ العَامَةِ والمُتحَف

Instructor: and we can have dinner together later

هو: و نَستَطيعُ أن نَتناوَلَ العَشاءَ سويا ً فيما بعد 

Instructor: your wife wants you to make reservations
for dinner; she asks” why don’t you call them?”

هي: لَكِن لِماذا لَا تَتَصِل بِهِم؟

Instructor: now is another day, you are meeting your
wife before meeting some friends for lunch. she says” I arrived 2 minutes ago”

هي: وَصَلتُ مُنذ ُ دَقيقَتين

Instructor: she asks” how long have you been here”.
Literally “since when have you been here?”

هي: مُنذ ُ مَتى وأنتَ هُنا ؟

Instructor: say you arrived 3 minutes ago 

هي: وَصَلتُ مُنذ ُ ثلاثِ دقائق.

Instructor: she says you are going to Al-Mashawy
restaurant, ask is it far?

هو: هل هو بَعيد ؟

هو: بَعيد .... هل هو بعيد ؟

Instructor: she wants to tell you that it’s just 1 minute far.

هو: استَمِع  وأعِد

هي: 

هي: إنه على بُعدِ دقيقة ِ واحدةِ فقط

هي: على ... بُعدِ دقيقةِ واحدةِ فقط

Instructor: how does she say it’s just 1 minute far?

هي: إنه على بُعدِ دقيقة ِ واحدةِ فقط

Instructor: really it’s not far

هي: حَقا ً إنهُ لَيسَ بعِيدا ً

هو: الأن اسأل

Instructor: the restaurant just 1 minute far.

هو: المطعمُ على بعدِ دقيقةِ واحدةِ فقط.

Instructor: your friends are late; she asks you why you don’t call them

هي: لِماذا لَا تَتَصِل بِهِم؟

Instructor: they still at the museum, ask:" until when the museum is open"

هو: إلى مَتى المُتحَفُ مَفتوح؟

هو: مَفتوح

Instructor: your friends tell you not to wait for them, the restaurant is out to receiving, your wife asks do you want to have lunch outside. First outside 

هو: استَمِع  وأعِد

هي: في الخارِج 

هي: في الخارِج 

هو: كَيفَ تَقُول

Instructor: outside

هي: في الخارِج 

Instructor: she asks do you want to have lunch outside

هي: هَل تَحبُ أن تتَناوَلَ الغَداءَ في الخارِج ؟

هي: في الخارِج

Instructor: or inside

هو: استَمِع  وأعِد

هي: أم في الدَاخِل ؟

هي: في الدَاخِل؟

Instructor: do you want to have lunch inside

هي: هَل تَحبُ أن تتَناوَلَ الغَداءَ في الدَاخِل ؟

Instructor: say that you prefer to eat outside.

هو: أُفَضِّلُ أن أكُلَ في الخارِج

Instructor: do you remember how a waiter asks, what would you like to order?

هو: مَاذا تَطلبون ؟

Instructor: your wife wants to say, every one wants to have lunch outside. First everyone

هو: استَمِع  وأعِد

هي: كُلُّ النَاسِ .. نَاس

هي: النَاس .. كُل

هي: كُلُّ النَاس

Instructor: this is a very common Arabic expression, literally means all the people

هو: كَيفَ تَقوُل

Instructor: everyone

هي: كُلُّ النَاس

Instructor: now here’s how your wife says everyone likes, literally every one they like 

هو: استَمِع  وأعِد

هي: كُلُ النَاسِ يُحِبون

هي: كُلُ النَاسِ يُحِبون

Instructor: how does she say everyone likes

هي: كُلُ النَاسِ يُحِبون

Instructor: here’s the word for “to have lunch” meaning they have lunch

هو: استَمِع  وأعِد

هي: أن يَتنَاولُوا الغَداء

هي: أن يَتنَاولُوا الغَداء

Instructor: how does she say everyone likes to have lunch outside?

هي: كُلُ النَاسِ يُحِبون َأن يتنَاولُوا الغَداءَ في الخارِج

هي: كُلُ النَاسِ يُحِبون َأن يتنَاولُوا الغَداءَ في الخارِج

Instructor: in the summer

هي: في الصَيف

Instructor: in the summer everyone likes to have lunch outside

هي: في الصَيفِ كُلُ النَاسِ يُحِبون َأن يتنَاولُوا الغَداءَ في الخارِج 

Instructor: and not inside

هي: ولَيسَ في الدَاخِل

Instructor: you take a look at the menu, how do you say the menu in Arabic. Remember it’s literally “list the food”

هو: قَائِمة الطَعاَم

هو: قَائِمة الطَعاَم

Instructor: how would your wife say to you, have you seen my glasses? Literally” did you see my glasses?

هي:هَل رَأيتَ نَظَارتي ؟

هي: رَأيتُ

Instructor: how does she say “I can’t read?”

هي: لا أستَطيعُ أن أقرَأ

هي: لا أستَطيعُ أن أقرَأ

Instructor: without my glasses I can’t read the menu

هي: بِدونِ نَظَارتي لا أستَطيعُ أن أقرَأَ قَائِمةَ الطَعاَم

هي: بِدون نَظَارتي لا أستَطيعُ أن أقرَأ قَائِمةَ الطَعاَم

Instructor: noticing the long line in the entrance, she says every one like to have lunch outside

هي: كُلُ النَاسِ يُحِبون َأن يتنَاولُوا الغَداءَ في الخارِج

Instructor: commenting on the line he says” everyone is on the street today”

هو: كُلُ النَاسِ في الشَارِعِ اليَوم

Instructor: you are making plans for the afternoon, ask until when the museum is open

هو: إلى مَتى المُتحَفُ مَفتوح؟

هو: مَفتوح

Instructor: now is another day and a college is showing you the city. You are hungry, she says to you. There is a good restaurant 

هي: يُوجَد مَطعَمٌ جَيد

Instructor: just 1 minute far

 هي: على بُعدِ دقيقةِ واحدةِ فقط

هي: على بُعدِ دقيقةِ واحدةِ فقط

هو: قُل 

Instructor: I want to pay by credit card 

هو: أريدُ أن أدفَعَ ببِطاقَةِ الائتِمان

هو: اسأل

Instructor: do they accept the American express card

هو: هل يَقبلون بِطاقَةَ أمِريكان اكسبِريس ؟

Instructor: she answers yes I think so

هي: نَعَم أعتقدُ ذَلِك

Instructor: at the restaurant she asks you do you want to have lunch inside or outside 

هي: هَل تَحبُ أن تتَناوَلَ الغَداءَ في الدَاخِل أم في الخارِج ؟

هي: هَل تَحبُ أن تتَناوَلَ الغَداءَ في الدَاخِلِ أم في الخارِج ؟

هو: أجِب

Instructor: I don’t know… everyone is inside 

هو: لا أعرِف... لَكِنَ كُلَ النَاسِ في الدَاخِل

Instructor: she says but the weather is not cold

هي: لَكِن الطَقسَ لَيسَ بارِدًا

هي: بارِد... باردًا

هو: قُل 

Instructor: everyone likes to have lunch inside 

هي: كُلُ النَاسِ يُحِبون َأن يتنَاولُوا الغَداءَ في الدَاخِل

Instructor: pointing to a particular spot in the patio, how does she say, there is a pretty table over there

هي: توجَد مِنضَدةٌ لَطيفةُ هَناك

هي: توجَد مِنضَدةٌ لَطيفةٌ هَناك

هو: كَيفَ تَقول

Instructor: almost

هو: استَمِع  وأعِد

هو: تَقريبا ً

هو: ريبا ً.. تـَ

هو: تَقريبا ً

Instructor: almost everyone is inside

هو: تَقريبا ً كُلُ النَاسِ في الدَاخِل

هو: قُل

Instructor: but me, I would like to stay outside

هو: لَكِن أنا ... أحبُ أن أمكثَ في الخارِج

Instructor: after you order here is how your colleague says I have a book on Damascus 

هو: استَمِع  وأعِد

هي: لَدىّ َ كِتابٌ عَن دمشق

هي: عَن

هي: عَن دمشق

Instructor: listen and repeat the name of the part described in the book

هي: حَديقَة تِشرين

هي: تِشرين .. رِين

هي: تِشـ .. تِشرين

هي: حَديقَة.. حَديقَة تِشرين

Instructor: Tishreen Park is one of the beautiful parks in Damascus, how would she say “everyone likes Tishreen Park”

هي: كُلُ النَاسِ يُحِبون حَديقَةِ تِشرين

Instructor: try to tell her I have a book on Tishreen Park

هو: لَدىّ َ كِتابٌ عَن حَديقَةِ تِشرين

Instructor: now how do you ask the waiter for the check?

هو: الفاتورة من فَضلِك

هو: الأن قُل

Instructor: I’m looking for my glasses

هو: أنا أبحَثُ عن نَظَارتي

Instructor: ask your colleague, do they accept the visa card

هو: بِطاقَةَ الفِيزا

هو: هَل يَقبلون بِطاقَةَ الفِيزا؟

هو: بِطاقَةَ الفِيزا

Instructor: as you are leaving, there is a long line of people waiting, say” almost everyone likes to have lunch is outside now” 

هو: تَقريبا ً كُلُ النَاسِ يُحبون أن يتَناوَلوا الغَداءَ في الخَارِج

هو: الأن اسأل

Instructor: is Tishreen Park over there?

هو: هَل حَديقَةُ تِشرين هُناك ؟

Instructor: your colleague answers, yes, it’s 1 minute far from here

هي: نَعَم .. على بُعدِ دقيقةٍ واحدةٍ من هنا.

Instructor: you say almost everyone is there today

هو: تَقريبا ً كُلُ النَاسِ هُناكَ اليَوم

Instructor: suggest her how about we have a walk at Tishreen Park

هو: مَا رأيُكِ أن نَسيرَ في حَديقَة تِشرين؟

Instructor: she answers, great almost everyone likes Tishreen Park

هي: عَظيم ..  تَقريبا ً كُلُ النَاسِ يحبونَ حَديقَةَ تِشرين

Instructor: now you’re at the park and the national museum is nearby, your colleague says we can go to the museum

هي: نَستَطيعُ أن نَذهبَ إلى المُتحَف

هو: اسأل

Instructor: until when the museum open

هو: إلى مَتى يظلُ المُتحَفُ مَفتوحًا ؟

Instructor: referring to the museum tickets tell her “I want to buy them”

هو: أُرِيدُ أن أشتَريَهُم

هو: أشتَريَهُم

Instructor: but the time is late now

هو: لَكِن الوَقتَ متأخَرٌ الأن

Instructor: I have another meeting today 

هو: لَدىّ اجتِماعٌ أخَر اليَوم

Instructor: at three o’clock in the afternoon

هو: السَاعة الثالثَة مَساءا ً

هو: قُل

Instructor: I would like to go to the museum but not today 

هو: أُحبُ أن أذهَبَ الى الَمُتحَف .. لَكِن لَيسَ اليَوم

Instructor: she says “ok we can go to the museum tomorrow”

هي: حسنا ً يُمكِنُنا الذَهابَ إلى المُتحَفِ غَدا ً

Instructor: later in the week, you meet a colleague in a café, you apologize for being late and she says me too I arrived two minutes ago

هي: أنَا أيضا ً وَصَلتُ مُنذُ دَقيقَتين

Instructor: she shows you a guide book saying I have a book about Aleppo

هي: لَدىَ كِتابٌ عَن حَلَب

Instructor: then she says next week I’m going on vacation to Aleppo 

هي: الأسبوع القَادِم سَأذهَبُ في عُطلَةٍ إلى حَلَب

Instructor: how would she say that she will stay at her sister’s place?

هي: سأمكثُ في بَيتِ أختِي

هي: في بَيتِ أختِي

Instructor: her apartment is small but there is a pretty garden in the back

هي: شَقِتها صَغيرةٌ... لَكِن توجَد حَديقَةٌ لَطيفةٌ في الخَلف

هو: قُل " لا أعرِفُ حَلَب"

هو: لا أعرِفُ حَلَب

Instructor: how did she say “I have a book about Aleppo?”

هي: لَدىَ كِتابٌ عَن حَلَب

هي: عَن حَلَب

هو: اسأل

Instructor: where are my glasses?

هو: أينَ نَظارتي ؟

Instructor: she says everyone likes Aleppo

هي: كُلُ النَاسِ يحبونَ حَلَب

Instructor: you find your glasses ask” where is the book of Aleppo”?

هو: أينَ كِتابُ حَلَب ؟

Instructor: she gets it out and says and I have a book about Alexandria for you

هي:لَدىَ كِتابٌ عَنِ الأسكندريةِ لك. 

Instructor: you finished your meal and you want to pay, how do you ask your colleague if they accept the visa card?

هو: هَل يَقبلون بِطاقَةَ الفِيزا؟

Instructor: as you leave you say, I’d like to come back to here again 

هو: أُحبُ أن أرجعَ إلى هُنا ثانيةً
