I would like today to present the first simple rule in Arabic grammar ...... It helps you a lot to read words properly ........Accents
they are dramatically important as they may change the meaning of the word totally and sometimes flip it.
.in Arabic language it is very well known as " Tashkeel "
تشكيل
It means literally " shaping " as accent shapes the tone of letter's pronunciation.
they are also work as indicators of the Arabic language grammar rules if it is placed on the top or base of the last letter of a word.
they are also work as indicators of the Arabic language grammar rules if it is placed on the top or base of the last letter of a word.
They are five accents........for this stage at intermediate level.
1- Fat ' hah (it shows as a dash on the top of the letter)
Fat' hah happens when you open your mouth at the last step of pronouncing the letter as if you are adding : a beside the letter
بَ
ba
2- Dhamm'ah (it shows as on the top of the letter)
Dhamm'ah happens when you circle your lips as if you are going to kiss and to add extra : o beside the letter.
بُ
bo
3- Cus'rah ( it shows as a dash under the letter)
Cus'rah happens when you lower your lower jaw and it shows under the letter as if you are adding extra : e beside the letter.
بِ
be
4- Sokoun ( It shows as a little circle on the top of the letter.)
بْ
This sign or accent orders you to stop driving the letter anywhere ........just pronounce it as it is .......we are not going to say : ba , be , bo
we call this accent Sokoun ........which means in Arabic language
literally silence ....which means no accents here.
5- shaddah ( It shows like three tines of a fork and It lies on the top of a letter.)
بّ
bb
Shaddah orders you to pronounce the letter twice at the same spot as you are stressing on
that letter.
Shaddah means literally in Arabic language .......( to pull ) .....as if you are pulling the letter to pronounce it twice .
Examples of reading with accents added :
===============================
مُحَمَدُ Mo ha ma do
مُحَمَدَ
Mo ha ma da
Mo ha ma da
مُحَمَدِ
Mo ha ma di
Mo ha ma di
Accents drive the letter to the way it should be pronounced.
مُحَََََمّدْ mo ha mma d
The previous example shows pronunciation of both shaddah and sukun on the letter. shaddah placed on letter م (the one looks like three tines of a fork ) drove the letter to be pronounced twice , while sukun on the last letter د
( the one looks like a small circle) ordered us to pronounce it as it is with no extra drive.
It is a long post though.............but I hope I made it clear......follow the videos posted here for more training and practice.
