هُو: إستَمِع إلى المُحادَثَة القادمة

Instructor: you hear

هُو: تَتحدثينَ عن السياسة

Instructor: and

هُو: نَعَم بِكُل سُرُور

Instructor: yes with pleasure

هُو: هَالَة هَل تَتحدثين عن السياسة ؟

هِي: نَعَم لِماذَا ؟

هُو: أصدِقائِي سَيقومُون بِزيارتي غَدا ً .. هَل تحبينَ أن تَتحدثُي عن السياسة مَعنا ً غَدا ً لَيلا ً ؟

هِي: نَعَم بِكُل سُرُور .. مَتى بالضبط ؟

هُو: السَاعَة الخَامِسَة

هِي: عَظِيم

هُو: إستَمِع مَرة أُخرى

هُو: هَالَة هَل تَتحدثين عن السياسة ؟

هِي: نَعَم لِماذَا ؟

هُو: أصدِقائِي سَيقومُون بِزيارتي غَدا ً .. هَل تحبين أن تَتحدثُي عن السياسة مَعنا ً غَدا ً لَيلا ً ؟

هِي: نَعَم بِكُل سُرُور .. مَتى بالضبط ؟

هُو: السَاعَة الخَامِسَة

هِي: عَظِيم

Instructor: now imagine you are an American woman
in an Arab country, you’re speaking with an Arab friend,
how do you ask him if there is a pharmacy not far from here

هِي: هَل توجَد صَيدَليَة لَيسَت بَعيدَة مِن هُنا؟

Instructor: he tells you:" yes, it’s five minutes from here by car"

هُو: إنها عَلى بُعد خَمسِ دَقائِقٍ مِن هُنا بِالسياَرَة

Instructor: tell him my car isn’t working today

هِي: سَيارَتي لا تَعمَل اليَوم

Instructor: ask him can you take me to the pharmacy

هِي: هَل تَستَطيعُ أن تصحبَني إلى الصَيدَليَة ؟

Instructor: he says yes of course it’s in Al-thawrah square

هُو: نَعَم بِالطَبع إنها في مَيدَان الثورة

Instructor: how does he say that he is going there now?

هُو: سَأذهَبُ إلى هُناك الأن

Instructor: ask him can you take me to
Al-thawrah square with you

هِي: هَل تَستَطيعُ أن تصحبَني مَعَكَ إلى مَيدَان الثورة ؟

Instructor: how does he say of course
he is able to take you?

هُو: نَعَم بِالطَبع أستَطيِعُ أن أصحبَكِ.. أصحبَكِ

Instructor: thank you my car isn’t working well

هِي: شُكرا ً جَزيلا ً ..سَيارَتي لا تَعمَلُ جَيدا ً

Instructor: he offers again I can take you if you want

هُو: أستَطيِعُ أن أصحبَكِ إذا أردت

هُو: أستَطيِعُ أن أصحبَكِ إذا أردت

Instructor: here’s how he says with pleasure

هُو : إسْتَمِع و أعِد

هُو: بِكُل سُرُور .. بِكُل سُرُور

Instructor: later as he drives you to the
pharmacy, ask him can you drive slowly

هِي: هَل تَستَطَيع أنْ تَقُود ببطء ؟

Instructor: these streets are small

هِي: هَذِه الشَوارِع صَغِيرَة

Instructor: and you drive very fast

هِي:و أنتَ تَقُود بِسُرعَة جِدا ً

Instructor: he says of course with pleasure

هُو: بِالطَبع بِكُل سُرُور

Instructor: I will drive slowly

هُو : سَأقُود ببطء

Instructor: say again you drive very fast

هِي: أنتَ تَقُود بِسُرعَة جِدا ً

Instructor: ask him can you drive slowly please

هِي: هَل تَستَطَيعُ أنْ تَقُودَ ببطءٍ مِن فَضلِك ؟

Instructor: he says: "yes, now I will drive slowly"

هُو :نَعَم الأن سَأقُود ببطء

Instructor: after he slows down ask him
do you talk about politics

هِي: هَل تتحدثُ عن السياسة؟

Instructor: say yes I like to talk about politics

هُو: نَعَم أحبُ أن أتحدثَ عن السياسة

Instructor: here’s how your friends ask you
if you talk about politics

هُو : إسْتَمِع و أعِد

هُو: هَل تَتحدثين عن السياسة؟.. تَتحدثين عن السياسة ؟

Instructor: how would a man ask a woman if she
talks about politics

هُو: هَل تَتحدثين عن السياسة ؟

Instructor: and here’s how he asks her if she likes
to talk about politics

هُو : إسْتَمِع و أعِد

هُو: هَل تُحبِين أن تتحدثي عن السياسة؟.. تُحبِين.. تُحبِين ان تتحدثي.. هَل تُحبِين أن تتحدثي عن السياسة ؟

Instructor: here’s how you tell him I talk about politics
with my friend Hany

هُو : إسْتَمِع و أعِد

هِي: أتحدثُ عن السياسة مَع صَديِقي هاني.. أتحدثُ.. أتحدثُ عن السياسة مَع صَديِقي هاني

Instructor: ask him do you talk about politics at the café

هِي: هَل تتحدثُ عن السياسة في المَقهَى ؟

Instructor: he says yes my wife and i

هُو:نَعَم أنا وَ زَوجي

Instructor: we can talk about politics there at night

هُو: نَستَطيع أن نَتحدثُ عن السياسة هُناك ليلا ً

Instructor: and sometimes on Saturday

هُو: وأحيانا ً يَوم السَبت

Instructor: tell him I talk about politics there
with my friend Hany

هِي: أتحدثُ عن السياسة هُناك مَع صَديِقي هاني

Instructor: he asks would you like to meet with us
tomorrow night

هُو: هَل تُحبين أن تقابلينا غَدا ً لَيلا ً؟

هُو: قُل

Instructor: I’m sorry I can’t talk about politics tomorrow

هِي: انا آسفة ....لا استَطيع أن أتحدثُ عن السياسة غَدا ً

Instructor: then he suggests how about we
meet on Saturday

هُو: مَا رأيُكِ ان نَتقابلَ يَوم السَبت ؟

هُو: قُل

Instructor: yes with pleasure

هِي: نَعَم .... بِكُل سُرُور

Instructor: we can talk about politics on Saturday

هِي: نَستَطيعُ أن نَتحدثَ عن السياسة يَوم السَبت

Instructor: with your wife and my friend Hany

هِي: مَع زَوجُكِ و صَديقِي هاني

Instructor: how does he say that’s a good idea?

هُو: هَذِه فِكرَةٌ جَيدَة

Instructor: he says I like to talk about politics

هُو: نَعَم أحبُ أن أتحدثَ عن السياسة

Instructor: we can talk Saturday morning

هُو: نَستَطيعُ أن نَتحدث يَوم السَبت صَباحا ً

Instructor: great

هِي: عَظِيم

Instructor: now you’re an American man, ask a female
friend would you like to talk about politics with me

هُو: هَل تُحبِين أن تتحدثي عن السياسة مَعي؟

Instructor: ask your Arab friend if she talks
about politics

هُو: هَل تَتحدثين عن السياسة ؟.. هَل تَتحدثين عن السياسة ؟

Instructor: she says:" yes, I like to talk about politics"

هِي: نَعَم أحبُ أن أتحدثَ عن السياسة

Instructor: we can talk tonight if you want

هُو: نستطيعُ أن نَتحدثَ الليلة اذا أردتِ

Instructor: try to say I would like to talk about
politics tonight

هُو: أحبُ أن أتحدثَ عن السياسة الليلة

Instructor: with Hala and her husband Hady

هُو: مَع هَالَة و زَوجُها هادي

Instructor: ask her would you like to talk about
politics with us

هُو: هَل تُحبِين أن تتحدثي عن السياسة مَعنا؟

Instructor: here’s how to say at their place….for two persons

هُو : إسْتَمِع و أعِد

هُو: عندهُما .. عندهُما

Instructor: she says that’s a good idea

هِي: هَذِه فِكرَةٌ جَيدَة

Instructor: but my car isn’t working well

هِي: لَكِن سَيارَتي لا تَعمَلُ جَيدا ً

Instructor: now try to say to their place…..for two persons

هُو: إليهِما

Instructor: she asks you are you able to take
me to their place please

هِي: هَل تَستَطيعُ أن تصحبَني إليهما مِن فَضلِك؟ .. إليهما

Instructor: my car isn’t working today

هِي: سَيارَتي لا تَعمَلُ اليَوم

Instructor: of course, they are ten minutes from here by car

هُو: بِالطَبع ..إنهما عَلى بُعدِ عَشر دَقائِق مِن هُنا بِالسَيَارَة

Instructor: by car , they are not far….for two persons

هُو: لَيسا بَعيديْن بِالسَيَارَة

Instructor: but they are far on foot

هُو: لَكِنهما بَعيدان سيرًا على الأقدام

Instructor: did you notice how to say "but they' in
Arabic for two persons ……as one word.

هو: لكنهما .....لكنهما

Instructor: tell her I’m able to take you
if you want

هُو: أنا أستَطيِعُ أن أصحبَكَ اذا أردتِ.. أستَطيِعُ أن أصحبَكِ

Instructor: you add with pleasure

هُو: بِكُل سُرُور

Instructor: we can go to their place by car

هُو: نَستَطيِعُ أن نَذهَبَ إليهما بِالسَيَارَة

Instructor: she says great thanks a lot

هِي: شُكرا ً جَزيلا ً

Instructor: now you’re on your way how does your
friend say in these streets

هِي: فِي هَذِه الشَوارِع

Instructor: you’re driving too fast

هِي: أنتَ تَقُود بِسُرعَةٍ جِدا ً

Instructor: she asks you can you drive slowly please

هِي: هَل تَستَطَيعُ أنْ تَقُودَ ببطء مِن فَضلِك ؟

Instructor: how do you tell her I like to drive fast?

هُو: أنا أحبُ أن أقُودَ بِسُرعَة

Instructor: but I will drive slowly if you want

هُو : سَأقُود ببطء إذا أردتِ

Instructor: yes please can you drive slowly

هِي: نَعَم مِن فَضلِك هَل تَستَطَيعُ أنْ تَقُودَ ببطء ؟

هِي: نَعَم مِن فَضلَك هَل تَستَطَيع أنْ تَقُودَ ببطء ؟  

Instructor: now it’s another day and you’re speaking
with a colleague, ask her if she talks about politics.

هُو: هَل تَتحدثين عن السياسة ؟

Instructor: she tells you:" yes, I talk about politics"

هِي: نَعَم أتحدثُ عن السياسة.

Instructor: how does she say I like to talk about politics?

هِي: أحبُ أن أتحدثَ عن السياسة

Instructor: I talk is the same for a man and a woman try
to tell her you talk about politics often with Hala Ramzy

هُو: هَالَة رَمزي

هُو: أنتِ تتحدثين  عن السياسة غالبًا مع هالة رمزي

Instructor: and with her husband too

هُو: ومَع زَوجِها أيضًا

Instructor: I talk about politics often with them…..

هُو: أنا اتحدثُ عن السياسة غالبًا مَعهُما

Instructor: say :"with them" in Arabic language
…..for two persons

هُو: مَعَهُم.. مَعَهُم

Instructor: ask her do you want to talk about politics tonight

هُو: هَل تريدين أن تتحدثي عن السياسة اللَيلَة؟

Instructor: she says:" but my car isn’t working today"

هِي: لَكِن سَيارَتي لا تَعمَلُ اليَوم

Instructor: she asks you are you able to take me
to their place please

هِي: هَل تَستَطيعُ أن تصحبَني إليهما مِن فَضلِك ؟

هُو: أجِب

Instructor: of course, they are ten minutes by car

هُو: بِالطَبع ..إنهما عَلى بُعد عَشرِ دَقائِق بِالسَيَارَة

Instructor: here’s how to say they talk about politics
pretty smart.

هُو : إسْتَمِع و أعِد

هُو: إنهما يتحدثان عن السياسةِ بشكلٍ ذكي جدًا

Instructor: how do you say they talk?.....for two persons

هُو: يَتحدثان

Instructor: ask her would you like to talk with us tomorrow

هُو: هَل تُحبِين ان تتحدثي  مَعنا غدا ً؟..

Instructor: say "with us"

هو: معنا

Instructor: how does she say tomorrow I’m not able to?

هِي: غَدا ً... لا أستَطيِع

Instructor: but on Monday I’m able to talk with you

هِي: لَكِن يَوم الإثنَيِن أستَطيعُ أن أتحدثَ مَعَك

Instructor: and with them….for two persons

هِي: ومَعَهُما

Instructor: great

هُو: عَظيِم

Instructor: you say about your friends:" they talk
about politics pretty smart"…..that is for more than two persons

هُو : إنهم يتحدثون عن السياسة بشكلٍ ذكي جدًا

هُو: إنهم يتحدثون عن السياسة بشكلٍ ذكي جدًا  

Instructor: she wants to know who talks better, Hala
or her husband Hady. First here’s he talks

هُو : إسْتَمِع و أعِد

هِي: هو يَتحدث .. يَتحدث.. يَتحدث

هُو: قُل

Instructor: he talks well

هُو: هو يتحدثُ جيدا ً.. يتحدث

Instructor: now here’s the word for better

هُو : إسْتَمِع و أعِد

هِي: أفضَل .. أفضَل

Instructor: and do you remember the word for who?

هِي: مَن .. مَن

Instructor: now how would she ask who talks better?

هِي: مَن يتحدثُ أفضَل ؟ .. أفضَل .. يتحدث .. مَن يتحدثُ أفضَل ؟

Instructor: better

هِي: أفضَل

Instructor: try to say he talks better

هُو: هُو يتحدثُ أفضَل

هُو: هُو يتحدثُ أفضَل

Instructor: now try to say:" than Hala"

هُو: مِن هَالَة

Instructor: say again I talk often with them….for two persons

هُو: أنا غالبًا أتحدثُ مَعهُما

Instructor: and they both talk pretty well

هُو: و هما الاثنان يتحدثان جَيد جِدا ً

Instructor: but I think he talks better than Hala

هُو: لَكِن أعتقد أنَه ُ يتحدثُ أفضَل مِن هَالَة

Instructor: ask her are you able to talk
about politics tomorrow

هُو:هَل تَستَطِيعين أن تَتحدثي عن السياسة غَدا ؟

Instructor: here’s how to say Wednesday

هُو : إسْتَمِع و أعِد

هُو: الأربَعَاء .. الأربَعَاء

Instructor: try to say tomorrow is Wednesday

هُو: غَدا ً هو الأربَعَاء

هُو: غَدا ًهو الأربَعَاء

Instructor: she replies in that case I’m able to talk
about politics with them

هِي: إذا ً أستَطيع أن أتحدث عن السياسة مَعَهُم

Instructor: and with you

هِي: ومَعَك

Instructor: tell her I think Hady talks better than Hala

هُو: أظُن أنَ هادي يتحدثُ أفضَلَ مِن هَالَة

Instructor: how would she say I have a good idea?

هِي: عندى فِكرَةٌ جَيدَة

Instructor: you can talk about politics with him

هِي: أنتَ تِستَطيعُ أن تتحدث عن السياسة مَعه

Instructor: and me I can talk about politics with hala

هِي: وأنَا أستَطيع أن أتحدثَ عن السياسة مَع هَالَة

Instructor: tell her that’s a good idea

هُو: هذه فِكرَةٌ جَيدَة

Instructor: say again they both talk pretty well

هُو: هما الإثنَان يتحدثان جَيد جِدا ً

Instructor: add but I think Hady talks better than Hala

هُو: لَكِن أعتقد أنَ هادي يتحدثَ أفضَل مِن هَالَة

Instructor: later you’re having coffee with another
friend, do you remember how to ask
“what did you do today?”

هِي: مَاذا فَعَلتَ اليَوم؟

Instructor: tell her I bought a lot of things

هُو: إشتَريتُ أشيِاءً كَثِيرَة

Instructor: here’s how she says I talked

هُو : إسْتَمِع و أعِد

هِي: تحدثتُ .. تحدثتُ

Instructor: at their place

هِي: عندهُم

Instructor: she tells you I talked about
politics with Hady

هِي: تحدثتُ عن السياسةِ مَع هادي

Instructor: say together I talked, I talked
about politics

هِي: تحدثتُ عن السياسة.....تحدثتُ عن السياسة

هِي: تحدثتُ .. تحدثتُ

Instructor: I think he talks better than Hala

هُو: أعتقد أنَه يتحدثُ أفضَلَ مِن هَالَة

Instructor: but they both talk pretty well

هُو: لَكِن هما الإثنَين يتحدثان جَيد جِدا ً

Instructor: how did she say that he talks pretty well?

هِي: هُو يتحدثُ جَيد جِدا ً

Instructor: how would he say she talks?

هِي: هِي تَتحدث

Instructor: she says but I think his wife talks better

هِي: لَكِن أعتقد أن زَوجَهُ تَتحدثُ أفضَل.. تَتحدث

Instructor: she asks is tomorrow Wednesday

هِي: هَل غَدا ً هو الأربَعَاء ؟

هِي: هَل غَدا ً هو الأربَعَاء ؟

Instructor: she tells you I talked about politics

هِي: تحدثتُ عن السياسة

Instructor: with Hady and Hala

هِي: مَع هادي و هَالَة

Instructor: I talked about politics with them…
.for two persons

هِي: تحدثتُ عن السياسةِ مَعهُما

هِي: تحدثت عن السياسةِ مَعهُما

Instructor: at their place yesterday…..for two persons

هِي: عندهُما  البارحة

Instructor: I talked about politics yesterday

هِي: تحدثتُ عن السياسةِ البارحة

هُو: إسأل

Instructor: does Hala talk better than Hady?

هُو: هَل هَالَة تَتحدثُ أفَضَل مِن هادي ؟

Instructor: she says I don’t know

هِي: لا أعرِف

Instructor: but she talks pretty well

هِي: لَكِنها.... تَتحدثُ جَيد جِدا ً

Instructor: did you notice how to say "but she" …
..It is one word in Arabic language.

هي: لكنّها ......لكنّها....لكنّها

Instructor: ask her are you able to talk about politics tomorrow

هُو:هَل تَستَطِيعين أن تَتحدثي عن السياسة غَدا ً؟

Instructor: she asks, is tomorrow Wednesday

هِي: هَل غَدا ً هو الأربَعَاء ؟

Instructor: you tell her:" yes"

هو : نعم...

Instructor: "great, in that case we can talk about
politics tomorrow"

هي: ...عَظيِم .. إذن نَستَطيعُ أن نَتحدثَ عن السياسة غَدا ً

Instructor: she says again that tomorrow is Wednesday

هِي: غَدا ً هو الأربَعَاء

Instructor: and now you are on a phone with a friend
ask her do you want to talk about politics
with us tonight

هُو: هَل تُحبين أن تتحدثي عن السياسة معنا الليلة  ؟

Instructor: how does she say I’m sorry, today is impossible?

هِي: أنا آسفة .... لَكِن اليَوم مُستَحيل

هِي: أنا آسفة.... لَكِن اليَوم مُستَحيل

Instructor: did you notice the word "impossible" ….in Arabic?

هي: مستحيل .....مستحيل

Instructor: ask her would you like to talk about
politics on Wednesday

هُو: هَل تُحبين أن تتحدثي عن السياسة يَوم الأربَعاء ؟

Instructor: she asks is tomorrow Wednesday

هِي: هَل غَدا ً الأربَعَاء؟

Instructor: yes

هو: نعم

Instructor: you say:" great, with pleasure"

هِي: عَظيِم .. بِكُل سُروُر.. بِكُل سُروُر

Instructor: how does she ask who talks better?

هِي: مَن يتحدثُ أفضَل ؟

Instructor: tell her they both talk well

هُو: هما الإثنَان يتحدثان جَيدًا

Instructor: add but I think Hady talks better than Hala

هُو: لَكِن أعتقدُ أنَ هادي يتحدثُ أفضَلَ مِن هَالَة

Instructor: This is the end of unit fifty five and the end of today’s lesson
