هو: استَمِع الي هذه المحادثةِ

هو: مَساءُ الخَيرِ يا سَيدَتي ..إسمي هِشام البرادعي

هي: عمتَ مساءً .. تشرّفنا .. ماري جونسون

هو: هلْ أنتِ كَندِية يا ماري ؟ 

هي: لا.. أنَا أمرِيكيِة .. أنَا مِن بُوسطون .. وماذا عنكَ ؟

هو: أنَا مِن الاسكندريةِ من مصر

هي: حقا ً؟ .. أنَا ذَهبتُ إلي هُناكَ في الشتاء .. الطَقسُ بَارِدٌ جِدا ًو لكن لا يتَساقَطُ الثَلج 

هو: نعم , أحيانًا تمطر و لكن لا يتساقطُ الثلج

هو : هلْ تُحبِينَ الإسكندرية ؟

هي: نعم . كثيرا ً لكن أ ُفضِلُ الذِهابَ إلى هُناكَ في الصَيف

هو: نعم , أحيانًا تمطر و لكن لا يتساقطُ الثلج

هو : هلْ تُحبِينَ الإسكندرية ؟

هي: نعم . كثيرا ً لكن أ ُفضِلُ الذِهابَ إلى هُناكَ في الصَيف

Instructor: Now you and an Arab colleague are discussing a new restaurant, how would she ask you can you guide me on the map?

هي: هلْ تستَطِيعُ أن تُرشِدَني على الخَريطة ؟

Instructor: she asks, what will you do today after work?

هي: ماذا سَتفعَلُ اليَوم بَعدَ العَمَل ؟

Instructor: tell her, I won’t be doing anything

هي:  لن أفعَلَ شيئا ً

هي:  لن أفعَلَ شيئا ً

Instructor: she says, if you won’t be doing anything 

هي: إذَا كنتَ لن تَفعَلَ شيئا ً 

هي: إذا كنتَ لن تَفعَلَ شيئا ً 

Instructor: come to our place after work

هي : إحضَر إلينا بَعدَ العَمل

Instructor: How would you ask her if she can speak slowly?

هو: هلْ تستَطِيعينَ التَحدُثَ بِبُطء ؟

Instructor: How would she say I will speak slowly now?

هي : سَأتحَدث ُ بِبُطءٍ الأن 

Instructor: if you won’t be doing anything after work

هي: إذَا كنتَ لن تَفعَلَ شيئا ً بَعدَ العَمل 

Instructor: come to have dinner with us

هي: إحضَر لتتَناوَلَ العَشاءَ معَنا

Instructor: she invites you to join her and her husband saying, we will have dinner at home

هي: سَوف نتَناوَلُ العَشاءَ في المَنزِل

Instructor: you accept saying, yes with pleasure.

هو: نعم , بِكُل سُرور

Instructor: you want to bring some sweets. …say sweets

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هو: حَلوى

هو: حلوى

هو: حَلوى

Instructor: try to say I would like to buy Sweets

هو: أحبُ أن أشتَريَ حَلوى

هو: أحبُ أن أشتريَ حلوى

Instructor: ask her, can you guide me to the pastry shop on the map? 

هو: هلْ تستَطِيعينَ أن تُرشِديني إلى متجرِ الحَلوى على الخَريطة ؟

هو: الحَلوى  

هو: قٌل

Instructor: I would like to buy some sweets

هو: أحبُ أن أشتَريَ بَعضَ الحلوى

Instructor: she says we don’t need a map

هي: نَحنُ لَا نحتاجُ إلي خَريطَة

Instructor: she says, I know a good sweets shop in Al-Shohada square.

هي: أعرِفُ مَتجرَ حَلوى جَيد في ميدان الشهداء .

Instructor: you can buy sweets there.

هي: تستَطِيعُ أن تشتَريَ الحَلوى هُناك.

Instructor: she starts talking fast again and you ask her to slow down.
She says I will speak slowly now 

هي : سَأتحَدث ُ ببُطءٍ الأن

Instructor:  referring to her and her husband’s place, ask
her but how does one go to your place?....for two persons.

هو: لكِن كيفَ للمرءِ أن يذهَبَ إلَيكُما ؟

Instructor: can you guide me?... but speak slowly

هو: هلْ تستَطِيعين أن تُرشِديني ؟..  لَكِن تحدّثي بِبُطء 

Instructor: she says of course I can guide you 

هي:  بالطبع أستَطِيعُ أن أ ُرشدَك َ

Instructor:  and I will speak very slowly

هي : وسَأتحَدث ُ بِبُطءٍ جدا ً

Instructor: how would you say, I would like to buy some sweets?

هو: أحبُ أن أشتَريَ بَعضا ً من الحَلوى

Instructor: how do you apologize if you’re late?

هو: أنا آسف. أنَا مُتأخِر

Instructor: she says it doesn’t matter

هي: لا يهم

هي: لا يهم

هو: قٌل

Instructor: the bus was late. 

هو: الحافلة كانت متأخرة

هو: الحافلة كانت متأخرة

Instructor: you hand her the sweets and say but
the stores are open until 6 o’clock

هو: لَكِن المَتاجرَ مَفتوحَةٌ حَتى السَاعة السَادِسة

Instructor: say again I’m sorry. I’m late.

هو: أنا آسف. أنَا مُتأخِر

Instructor: she says, ah my husband likes sweets

هو: الحَلوى

هي: آه , زَوجِي يُحِبُ الحَلوى

Instructor: a colleague has just returned from skiing in Lebanon,
she says I have some photos

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هي: لَدىّ بَعضُ الصُوَر

هي: صُوَر

هي: لَدىّ بَعضُ الصُوَر

Instructor: photos of snow

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هي: صُورُ الثلج

هي: ثلج ....الثلج 

هي: صُوَر 

هي: صُورُ الثلج

Instructor: how would she say I have some photos of the snow?

هي: لَدىّ بَعضُ صُوَرِ الثلج 

هي: صُوَر

Instructor: here’s the word "your photos"… speaking to a woman.

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هو: صُوَرُكِ

هو: صُوَرُكِ

Instructor: try to tell her, I would like to see your photos 

هو: أُحبُ أن أرَى صُوَرَكِ

هو: أُحب ُأن أرَى صُوَرَكِ

Instructor: she asks you, what are you going to do later?

هي: مَاذا سَتفعَلُ فيما بعد ؟     

Instructor: tell her, I won’t be doing anything

هو:  لن أفعَلَ شيئا ً

Instructor; she says again I have some photos of the snow?

هي: لَدىّ بَعضُ الصُوَرِ للثلج 

Instructor: she says if you won’t be doing anything 

هي: إذَا كنتَ لن تَفعَلَ شيئا ً

هي: إذا كنتَ لن تَفعَلَ شيئًا

Instructor: come over to our place tonight 

هي: إحضَر إلينا اللَيلَة

Instructor: try to tell her, I would like to see your photos 

هو: أُحب ُأن أرَى صُوَرَكِ

هو: صُوَرَكِ

Instructor: tell her, I won’t be doing anything later

هو:  لن أفعَلَ شيئا ً فيما بعد 

Instructor: I would like to see your photos 

هو: أُحب ُأن أرَى صُوَرَكِ

Instructor: referring to her trip ask her how the
weather is around the mountains

هو: ما حَالةُ الطَقسِ حولَ الجِبال؟ ..

 هو:ما حَالة الطَقسِ؟.....حول الجبال ؟

Instructor: first say "mountains"

هو: جبال ....جبال

Instructor: then the word "around"

هو: حولَ ....حولَ

Instructor: now say "around the mountains"

هو: حولَ الجبال ...........حولَ الجبال

هو: ما حالةُ الطقسِ حولَ الجبال ؟

Instructor:  Did it snow?....in the past tense.

هي : هل تَساقَطَ الثَلج ؟

هي : هل تَساقَطَ الثَلج ؟ 

Instructor: here’s, how you ask

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هو: هل أمطرت ؟ .. طَر...أمطرت

هو: أمطرت

هو: هل أمطرت ؟

Instructor: how do you ask her if it rained?....in the past tense

هو: هل أمطرَت ؟

Instructor: she tells you it snowed a little around the mountains

هي: تَساقَط الثَلجُ قليلا ً حولَ الجِبَال

هي: حولَ الجِبَال

هي: تساقط الثلج قليلًا .....حولَ الجبال

Instructor: but in Alexandria it rained a lot

هي: لَكِن فِي الاسكندرية أمطرت كثيرا ً

Instructor: in Alexandria the weather is very nice

هي: في الأسكندرية الطَقسُ لطِيفٌ جِدا ً

Instructor: you want to tell her that your son is studying
in Beirut; first here is the word for “he’s studying” 

هو: يَدرُس

Instructor: try it

هو: يَدرُس

هو: يَدرُس

Instructor: now how would you say my son is studying
in Beirut?

هو:إبنِي  يَدرُسُ في بَيرُوت

Instructor: it does snow there.

هو: يِتسَاقَطُ الثَلجُ هُناك

Instructor: how would she say, yes but it rained a lot in winter. 

هي: حقا ً , ولكن أمطرت كثيرًا في الشتاء.

Instructor: tell her again my son is studying in Beirut?

هو:إبنِي  يَدرُسُ في بَيرُوت

Instructor: I would like to see your photos 

هو: أُحب ُأن أرَى صُوَرَكِ

Instructor: she reminds you, come over to our place tonight 

هي: إحضَر إلينا اللَيلَة

Instructor: ask here how is the weather around
the mountains in the summer?

هو: ما حَالةُ الطَقسِ حولَ الجِبالِ في الصَيف ؟

Instructor: she tells you the weather is very nice.

هي: الطَقسُ لطِيفٌ جِدًا

Instructor: it’s not hot and it isn’t cold

هي: ليَس حارا ً وليَس باردا ً

Instructor: she says in Damascus, it’s very hot in the summer 

هي: في دمشق،  الجَو حَارٌ جدا ً في الصَيف

هي: في الصَيف

Instructor: but in winter it rains a lot

هي: لكِن في الشتاءِ تمطرُ كثيرا ً

Instructor: referring to another son, tell her
that your son lives in Boston

هو: إبني يسكنُ في بُوسطون .. في بُوسطون

 Instructor: here’s how to tell her, he is a student
in Boston University 

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هو: إنّهُ طَالِبٌ في جَامِعةِ بُوسطون .. في جَامِعة بُوسطون

هو: إنهُ طَالِبٌ في جَامِعةِ بُوسطون

Instructor: he’s studying Arabic there.

هو: إنهُ يَدرُسُ اللُغَةَ العَربيةَ هُناك

Instructor: your colleague asks, is the weather hot in Boston.

هي : هل الطَقسُ حَارٌ في بُوستُون ؟

هو: أجِب

Instructor: yes sometimes in the summer.

هو: نعَم , أحيانا ً في الصَيف

Instructor: but in winter it snows a lot 

هو: لَكِن في الشتاءِ يتَساقَطُ الثَلجُ كثيرا ً

Instructor: now she asks your son is studying Arabic?

هي: هل إبنُك يَدرُسُ اللُغَةَ العَربية؟

Instructor: yes he speaks a little now. 

هو: نعم , هوَ يتَحدَثُ قليلا ً  الآن

Instructor: he is studying Arabic at Boston University

هو: هوَ يَدرُسُ اللُغَةَ العَربيةَ في جَامِعة بُوسطون

Instructor: here’s how she asks you, did he grow up in Boston?

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هي: هل كبِرَ فِي بُوسطون؟

هي: كبِرَ

هي: هل كبِرَ فِي بُوسطون؟

Instructor: try to say, yes he grew up there.

هو: نعم , كبِرَ هُناك .. كبِرَ

Instructor: she tells you I grew up in Alexandria.

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

Instructor: notice that you keep the word for “I” for emphasis 

هي: أنا كبرتُ في الاسكندرية .

هي: كبرت ..برت .. كبرت

هي: أنا كبرتُ في الاسكندرية .

هو: قل

Instructor: I would like to go there in the summer.

هو: أُ حبُ أن أذهَبَ إلى هُناك في الصَيف

Instructor: how would she say, I grew up in Alexandria.

هي: أنا كبرتُ في الاسكندرية .

Instructor: now your colleague says, the next month
she is going to Boston. Here’s the word for “the month”

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هي: الشَهر .. الشَهر .. الشَهر

Instructor: how would she say, next month?
Literally the month the next 

هي: الشَهرَ القَادِم

هي: الشَهرَ القَادِم

Instructor: Do you remember how to ask a woman, what will you do?

هو: ماذا سَتفعلِين؟ .. سَتفعلِين

Instructor: ask your female college what will you do next month?

هو: ماذا سَتفعلِينَ الشَهرَ القَادِم ؟

هو: ماذا سَتفعلِين الشَهرَ القَادِم ؟

Instructor: she answers, I’m going to Boston

هي: سَأذهَبُ إلى بُوسطون

Instructor: try to say that you have some photos of Boston

هو: لَدىّ بَعضَ الصُوَرِ لبُوسطون .. لبُوسطون

Instructor: how would she say to you,
I would like to see your photos? 

هي: أُحب ُأن أرَى صُوَرَكَ ..صُوَرَكَ   

Instructor: ask her again what will you do next month?

هو: ماذا سَتفعلِينَ الشَهرَ القَادِم ؟

Instructor: how would she say next month? 

هي: الشَهرَ القَادِم

Instructor: I’m going to Boston and then to New York

هي: سَأذهَبُ إلي بُوسطون ثُم إلي نِيويُورك

Instructor: tell her my son lives in Boston

هو: إبنِي يَعيشُ في بُوسطون

Instructor: you show her a photo on your phone; saying this is my son Daniel

هو: هَذا هَو إبنِي دَانيال

هو: هَذا هَو إبنِي دَانيال

Instructor: you tell her you have some photos of your son,
how would she say: I would like to see your photos 

هي: أُحبُ ن أرَى صُوَرَكَ .. صُوَرَكَ

هو: قل

Instructor: he is studying Arabic at Boston University

هو: هوَ يَدرُسُ اللُغَةَ العَربيةَ في جَامِعةِ بُوسطون

Instructor: how would she ask you if he grow up in Boston?

هي: هل كبرَ فِي بُوسطون؟

Instructor: yes he grew up there.

هو: نَعم , كبرَ هُناك .. كبرَ

Instructor: next month he is coming to Damascus 

هو: الشَهرَ القَادِم سيحضرُ إلى دمشق

Instructor: you suddenly realize that you are late for a
meeting and excuse yourself saying, I’m sorry I’m late.

هو: أنا آسف.. أنا مُتأخِر. 

Instructor: now it’s another day and a friend wants to see
your photos of your vacation she says I would like to see your photos 

هي: أُحب ُأن أرَى صُوَرَكَ .. صُوَرَكَ

Instructor: she says her husband wants to see them as
well she offers an invitation to dinner saying:
"come to have dinner with us."

هي: إحضَر لتتَناوَلَ العَشاءَ معَنا

Instructor: ask her what will you do after work?

هو: ماذا سَتفعلِين بَعدَ العَمل؟

Instructor: she says, I won’t be doing anything

هي :  لن أفعَلَ شيئا ً

هو : قل

Instructor: may be I will buy some sweets.

هو: ربما أشتَري بَعضَ الحَلوى 

Instructor: she says again I would like to see your photos 

هي: أُحب ُأن أرَى صُوَرَك

Instructor: she says come to have dinner with us.

هي: إحضَر لتتَناوَلَ العَشاءَ معَنا

Instructor: you arrive at their place a little bit late, say I’m sorry. I’m late

هو: أنا آسف.. أنا مُتأخِر. 

Instructor: she introduces you to her husband, after dinner she gets
out some family pictures saying I have some photos

هي : لَدىّ بَعضُ الصُوَر

هو : قل 

Instructor: I would like to see your photos 

هو: أُحب ُأن أرَى صُوَرَكِ

Instructor: photos are feminine word; try to tell her, your photos are beautiful 

هو: صُوَرُكِ جَميلَة .. جَميلَة

Instructor: you show him one photo saying:" this is my son Daniel"

هو: هذَا هَو إبني دَانيال

Instructor: he is studying Arabic at Boston University

هو: هوَ يَدرُسُ اللُغَةَ العَربيةَ في جَامِعة بُوسطون

Instructor: next month he is coming to Damascus 

هو: الشَهرَ القَادِم سيأتي إلى دمشق.

Instructor: how is your friend ask, where did he grow up?

هي: أيَن كبر؟ 

هي: أيَن كبر؟ 

هو:أجِب

Instructor: he grew up in Boston

هو: كبرَ في بُوسطون

Instructor: she tells you I grew up in Alexandria.

هي: أنا كبرتُ في الاسكندرية .. كبرت

هو: قل

Instructor: I would like to go there in the summer.

هو: أ حبُ أن أذَهبَ إلى هُناك في الصَيف

Instructor: how did she say again that she grew up in Alexandria?

هي: أنا كبرتُ في الأسكندرية

Instructor: tell her that your son lives in Boston

 هو: إبنِي يَعيشُ في بُوسطون

Instructor: she asks it snows a lot there right?

هي: يِتسَاقَطُ الثلَجُ كَثيرًا هُناك .. صحيح ؟

Instructor: tell her not in the summer

هو: ليَسَ في الصَيف

Instructor: she says I would like to go there in the summer

هي: أ حبُ أن أذهَبَ إلي هُناك في الصَيف

Instructor: she has just retuned from a trip to Alexandria,
ask her if it snows in Alexandria

هو: هل يتَساقَطُ الثَلجُ في الأسكندرية ؟

Instructor: she says:"no, but last week it rained a lot."

هي: لا ... لكن في الإسِبُوعِ المَاضي أمَطرت كثيرًا. 

Instructor: tell her I would like to see your photos 

هو: أُحبُ أن أرَى صُوَرَكِ

Instructor: she says:"on Friday it rained a lot in Alexandria

هي: في الجُمُعةِ أمطرت كَثيرًا في الاسكندرية.

Instructor:  referring to her husband you ask her,
where he grew up.

هو: أيَن كبِر ؟ 

Instructor: she tells you in Homs

هي: في حِمص

Instructor: she continues but me I grew up in Alexandria 

هي: لكِن أنا كبِرْتُ في الأسكندرية

Instructor: she tells you I’m going to Boston next month

هي: سَأذهَبُ إلى بُوسطون الشَهرَ القَادِم

Instructor: she asks if it snows a lot in Boston

هي: هل يتَساقَطُ الثَلجُ كثير ًا في بُوسطون ؟

Instructor: tell her:" On Friday it rained a lot there but it didn’t snow."

هو: أمطرت كَثيرًا في الجُمُعة هُناك ولَكِن لم يتَساقَطْ الثَلج.

Instructor: This is the end of unit sixty three and the end of today’s lesson
