هو: استَمِع الي هذه المحادثةِ

هي: إبنُكَ يَعيشُ في بُوسطون و كبرَ هُناك ؟

هو: نَعم , كبرَ في بُوسطون والأن يدرُسُ هُناك

هي: كبرتُ في لبنان حولَ الجِبال

هو: لبنان دولةُ جَميلةُ جدا ً

هو: أُحبُ أن أذهبَ إلى هُناك في الشتاء ..يتَساقَطُ ثَلجٌ كَثير في لبنان ..

هي : حقًا ... هذا صحيح

هي: الشَهر المَاضي تَساقَط قَليلٌ من الثَلج و تمطرُ كثيرًا 

Instructor: you just heard 

هو : الشَهر المَاضي 

Instructor: last month 

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هو: استَمِع الي هذه المحادثةِ

هو: نَعم , كبرَ في بُوسطون والأن يدرُسُ هُناك

هي: كبرتُ في لبنان حولَ الجِبال

هو: لبنان دولةُ جَميلةُ جدا ً

هو: أُحبُ أن أذهبَ إلى هُناك في الشتاء ..يتَساقَطُ ثَلجٌ كَثير في لبنان ..

هي : حقًا ... هذا صحيح

هي: الشَهر المَاضي تَساقَط قَليلٌ من الثَلج وتمطرُ كثيرًا

Instructor: now you and an Arab friend are talking about
your children, she says my daughter lives in Beirut now

هي: إبنَتي تَسكُنُ في بَيروتٍ الآن 

Instructor: not far from the mountains

هي: ليسَ بَعِيدًا عَن الجِبال

Instructor: ask her how is the weather there?

هو: ما حَالةُ الطَقسِ هُناك ؟

Instructor: how would she tell you that the weather
is nice in the summer?

هي: الطَقسُ لَطيفُ في الصَيف 

هو: هِيَ تَقُول

Instructor: she says 

Instructor: I have some photos of the mountains.

هي: لَدىّ بَعضُ الصُوَرِ للجِبال

Instructor: tell her, I would like to see your photos 

هو: أُحب ُأن أرَى صُوَرَكِ

Instructor: how would she tell you, if you won’t be
doing anything later?

هي:  اذا كنتَ لن تَفعلَ شَيئًا  فيما بعد 

Instructor: come over to our place tonight 

هي: إحضَر إلينا اللَيلَة

Instructor: how do you tell her you won’t be doing anything?

هو:  لَن أفعَلَ شَيئًا

هو:  لَن أفعَلَ شَيئًا

هو: قل

Instructor: I would like to buy Levantine sweets

هو: أحبُ أن أشتَريَ حَلوى شرقية

Instructor: ask her, can you show me to the sweets shop on the map? 

هو: هلْ تستَطِيعينَ أن تُرشِديني إلى متجرِ الحَلوى على الخَريطة ؟

Instructor: she says we don’t need a map

هي: نَحنُ لَسنا بِحاجةٍ إلي خَريطَة

Instructor: it’s not far from our place.

هي: إنهُ لَيسَ بعيدا ً عنا.

Instructor: you can buy Levantine sweets there. 

هي : تستطيعُ شِراءَ الحلوى الشرقية هُناك

Instructor: later how would she say, next month I’m going to Boston

هي: الشَهر القَادِم سَأذهَبُ إلي بوسطون

هي : هي تسأل

Instructor:  your son lives in Boston right?

هي: إبنَك يسَكُنُ في بوسطون .. صحيح ؟

Instructor: yes but he grew up in New York.

هو: نعَم ولكِنه كبرَ في نِيو يورك .. كبرَ في نيويورك

هي : تسأل

Instructor: is the weather there hot in the summer?

هي : هل الطَقسُ حَارٌ هُناك  في الصَيف ؟

هي: في الصَيف

Instructor: tell her yes sometimes it’s very hot.

هو: نعَم أحَيانًا حَار جدا ً

هو: حَار

Instructor: tell her that your son is studying Arabic there.

هو: ابني يَدرُسُ اللُغَةَ العَربيةَ هُناك

هو: قل

Instructor: I have some photos of Boston

هو: لَدىّ بعَضُ الصُوَرِ لبوسطون .. لبوسطون

Instructor: she tells you, I would like to see your photos

هي: أُحب ُأن أرَى صُوَرَكَ 

هي: تقَول 

Instructor: if you won’t be doing anything later?

هي:  اذا كنتَ لن تَفعلَ شَيئًا فيما بعد 

Instructor: come have dinner with us

هي: إحضَر لتَتناوَل العَشاءَ معَنا

Instructor: she wants to ask you, is Boston near the mountains.
Literally near from the mountains?

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هي: هل بوسطون قَريبةٌ من الجِبال؟ .. قَريبة .. قَريبة من .. قَريبةُ من الجِبال

Instructor: what is the Arabic word for “near?”

هي: قَريبة .. قَريبة من

Instructor: you tell her, no it’s near the ocean

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هو: لا إنها قَريبةٌ من المحيط .. المحيط .. محي .. ط .. المحيط

هو: هيَ قَريبةٌ من المحيط

Instructor: it snows a lot there right?

هي: يتَساقَطُ الثلجُ كثيرا ً هُناك .. صحيح ؟

Instructor: sometimes it snows near the ocean

هو: أحيانا ً يتَساقَطُ الثَلجُ قَريِبًا من المحيط

Instructor: here’s how to say in the winter.

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هي: في الشِتاء .. شِتاء .. في الشِتاء

Instructor: sometimes it snows a lot in the winter

هو: أحيانا ً يتَساقَطُ ثلجٌ كَثيرٌ في الشِتاء

Instructor:  try to say but Boston is near the ocean

هو: لَكِن بوسطون قَريبة من المحيط.

Instructor: last week it rained.

هو: الإسبُوع المَاضي أمطرت 

هو: كيَف تَقول بالعَربِي 

Instructor: it snows

هي: يتَساقَط الثلج

Instructor: try to say 

هو: حَاول أن تَقول 

Instructor: often it rains

هو: غالبًا تمطر

Instructor: near the ocean in the winter

هو: بالقُرب من المحيط في الشِتاء

Instructor: say together in the summer in the winter

هي: في الصَيف .. في الشِتاء

هو: قل

Instructor: my son likes studying in Boston in the summer

هو: ابني يُحبُ أن يدرُسَ في بوسطون في الصَيف

Instructor: my son grew up in New York
but he lives in Boston now

هو: ابني كبرَ في نيو يُورك لكَنه يسكُنُ في بوسطون الأن

Instructor: Boston is near the ocean

هو: بوسطون قَريبة من المحيط

Instructor: you tell her, my brother lives there

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هو: أخي يسكُن هُناك .. أخي .. أخي يسكُن هُناك

Instructor: he works in a bank in Boston

هو: إنهُ يَعمَلُ في مصرِف في بوسطون

Instructor: try to say my son lives with my brother

هو: ابني يسكُن مع أخِي .. مع أخِي

Instructor: tell her again, your son is studying Arabic there.

هو: ابني يَدرُسُ اللُغَةَ العَربيةَ هُناك 

Instructor: later you have some trouble finding their house,
when you finally arrive, how do you tell them, I’m sorry I’m late.

هو: انا آسف  .. أنا مُتأخِر. 

Instructor: she says ah my husband likes the Levantine sweets 

هي: آه .. زَوجي يحُبُ الحلوى الشرقية

Instructor: tell her again that you’re sorry, you’re late.

هو: أنا آسف.. أنا مُتأخِر. 

Instructor: now it’s another day, you are speaking with
other acquaintance, ask her where she lives. 

هو: أين تَسكُنين ؟

هي تقول 

Instructor: I live here in Damascus 

هي: أسكُنُ هُنا في دمشق

Instructor: but I grew up in Lebanon 

هي: لكِني كبرتُ في لبنان.. كبرتُ .. كبرتُ في لبنان

Instructor: she wants to ask him where you grew up

هي: كبرتَ .. أين كبرتَ ؟

هو: قل ... كبرتُ في بوسطون

هو: أنا كبرتُ في بوسطون

هو: قل .. كبرت قَريبًا من المحيط

هو: أنا كبرتُ قَريبًا من المحيط .. كبرتُ

Instructor: another acquaintance asks you where did you grow up?

هي: أين كبرتَ ؟

هو: قل مرة أُ ُخرى 

Instructor: I grew up in Boston near the ocean.

هو: أنا كبرتُ في بوسطون قريبًا من المحيط. 

هو: الأن هي تسأل 

Instructor: how is the weather in Boston in the winter?

هي: ما حَالةُ الطَقسِ في بوسطون في الشِتاء ؟

هو: أجِب

Instructor: the weather is very cold

هو: الطَقسُ بارِد جدا ً

Instructor: Do you remember how to say last week.

هو: الإسبُوع المَاضي .. المُاضي

Instructor: here’s how to say last month

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هو: الشَهر المَاضي .. المَاضي 

هو: قل

Instructor: but last month it rained a lot 

هو: لكن الشَهرَ المَاضي أمطرت كَثيرًا 

Instructor: say together last week, last month 

هو: الإسبوع المَاضي .. الشَهر المَاضي

Instructor:  say again last month it rained a lot 

هو: الشَهر المَاضي أمطرت كَثيرًا 

هو: اسال

Instructor: and how is the weather in Lebanon in the winter 

هو: ما حَالةُ الطَقسِ في لبنان في الشِتاء ؟

Instructor: she tells you, it snows a lot 

هي:  يتساقط الثلجُ كثيرًا

هو: هي تَقول في لبنان يتَساقط ُ الثلجُ كَثيرًا

هي: في لبنان يتَساقطُ الثلجُ كَثيرًا

Instructor: and it rains a lot

هي: و تمطرُ كثيرًا  

Instructor: how would she ask does it rain a lot in Boston? 

هي: هل تمطرُ كَثيرًا في بوسطون؟

Instructor: tell her last month it snowed a little.

هو: الشهَر المَاضي تَساقَطَ ثلجٌ قَليل 

Instructor: it rained a lot 

هو: و أمطرت كَثيرًا

Instructor: she says it often rains in Lebanon 

هي: غالبًا تمطر في لبنان

Instructor: and it snows a lot 

هي: و يتساقطُ الثلجُ كَثيرًا

Instructor: she says last month it snowed a little and rained a lot 

هي: الشَهر المَاضي تَساقَطَ قليلٌ من الثلج وأمطرت كثيرًا

هو: الأن هي تَقول

Instructor: I have photos of Lebanon

هي: لّدىّ صُورٌ لِلبنان .. لِلبنان

Instructor: tell her, I would like to see your photos 

هو: أُحب ُأن أرَى صُوَرَكِ

Instructor: she wants to know, what you do for a living,
do you remember how to tell her I work here in Damascus.

هو: أعمَل هُنا في دمشق.

Instructor: my job is very interesting

هو: مِهنَتي مُمتِعةٌ جدا ً

Instructor: how would you ask her, you work for a bank?

هو: هل تعملينَ في مصرِف ؟ 

Instructor: I’m a manager

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هو: أنَا مُدير .. ديِر .. مُدير 

هو: أنَا مُدير

Instructor: I’m a branch manager

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هو: أنا مُدير فَرع .. فَرع

هو: أنا مُدير فَرع

هو: كَيفَ تَقُول 

Instructor: branch manager

هو: مُدير فَرع

Instructor: and my wife is a teacher

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هو: وزَوجي معلمة .. معلمة .. معلمة

Instructor: she wants to ask, what your wife teaches

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هي: ماذا تدَرِّس ؟ .. دَرِّس .. تُدَرِّس

هي: ماذا تُدَرِّس ؟

هو: كَيفَ تسأل 

Instructor:  how would she ask, what does she teach?

هي: ماذا تُدَرِّس ؟

Instructor: try to tell her that she teaches English.

هو: إنها تُدَرِّسُ اللغةَ الانجليزية.

Instructor: your acquaintance says ah she is a teacher.

هي: آه .. هي معلمة. 

هي: هي معلمة

Instructor: yes she teaches English

هو: نعم, هي تُدَرِّسُ اللغةَ الانجليزية

هو: تُدَرِّسُ اللغةَ الانجليزية

Instructor: and me, I ‘m a branch manager 

هو: وأنا .. أنا مَدير فَرع 

Instructor: in a bank

هو : في مصرِف

Instructor:  how would she ask, what does your wife teach?

هي: ماذا تُدَرِّسُ زَوجُكَ ؟

Instructor:   tell her that your wife is a teacher at Damascus University

هو: زَوجِي معلمة  في جَامعة دِمَشق

Instructor: she is a teacher. She teaches English

هو: هي معلمة .. تُدَرِّسُ اللغةَ الانجليزية

هو: قل

Instructor:  I ‘m a branch manager in a bank

هو: أنا مَدير فَرع في مصرِف

Instructor: you pull your cell phone and show her a
picture of your wife, tell her she is a teacher.

هو: هي معلمة

Instructor: she teaches a lot

هو: هي تُدَرِّسُ كَثيرا ً

Instructor: you bring up a picture of your brother
on your phone, you tell her my son Daniel lives in Boston
near the ocean

هو: ابني دَانيال يسكُنُ في  بوسطون قَريبًا من المحيط.. من المحيط

Instructor: you want to tell her that your brother is married
to an Arab woman, first here’s how to say he is married.

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هو: هو مُتزَوج ..زَوج .. متزَو .. مُت .. مُتزَوج...هو متزوج

Instructor: say my brother

هو: أخي ....أخي

Instructor: try to say my brother is married 

هو: أخي مُتزَوج

Instructor: to an Arab woman 

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هو: من إمرأة عربية .. عربية .. إمرأة

هو: إمرأة عربية.... من إمرأة عربية

Instructor: what is the word for woman? 

هي: إمرأة .. إمرأة

Instructor: say my brother is married to an Arab woman from Lebanon.

هو: أخي مُتزَوجٌ من إمرأةٍ عربيةٍ من لبنان

Instructor: my brother lives in Boston with his wife

هو: أخي يسكُنُ في بوسطون مع زَوجِه

هو: قل

Instructor: he is married to an Arab woman 

هو: هو مُتزَوّجٌ من إمرأةٍ عربية .. إمرأة عربية

Instructor: she says and you... You grew up in Boston right?

هي: وأنتَ كبرتَ في بوسطون .. حقا ً ؟ ....صحيح ؟

Instructor: now your acquaintance wants to tell you about
her family. Here’s how she says my sister.

  

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هي: أ ُختي .. أ ُختي .. أخي .. أ ُختي

هو: كيف تقول

Instructor: my sister

هو: أ ُختي

Instructor: she is married 

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

هي: مُتزَوِّجة .. زَوِّجة .. مُتزَوِّجة

Instructor: how would she say my sister is married to an American?

هي: أ ُختي مُتزَوِّجةٌ من أمريكيّ

Instructor: say together she is married. He is married

هو: هي مُتزَوِّجة .. هو مُتزَوِج

Instructor: did you notice the difference between feminine
and masculine form in the word "married"?....say again married ,
first the feminine form then the masculine.

هو: متزوّجة ....متزوّج

متزوجة ....متزوج

Instructor: her husband grew up in New York

هي: زَوجُها كبرَ في نيويورك

هي: كبر

Instructor: next month

هي: الشَهر القَادِم

Instructor: my sister wants to go to Lebanon

هي: أ ُختي تُحبُ أن تَذهَبَ إلى لبنان

هو: هي تقول

Instructor: my brother still lives in Lebanon.

هي: أخي مازال يَسكُنُ في لبنان

Instructor: he is married to an Arab woman 

هو: هو مُتزَوّجٌ من إمرأةٍ عربية

Instructor: he is a branch manager in a bank

هي: هو مُدير فَرع  في مصرِف

Instructor: and his wife is a teacher

هي: وزَوجُهُ معلمة.

Instructor: she teaches a lot in winter

هي: هي تُدَرِّسُ كَثيرا ً في الشِتاء

هو: أسال

Instructor: what does she teach?

هو: ماذا تُدَرِّس ؟

Instructor: She teaches English

هي: هي تُدَرِّسُ اللغةَ الانجليزية

Instructor: she says my sister is married to an American

هي: أ ُختي مُتزَوِجةٌ من أمريكيّ

هي: أ ُختي مُتزَوِجةٌ من أمريكيّ

Instructor: but my brother is married to an Arab woman from Lebanon 

هو: لكِن أخي مُتزَوجٌ من إمرأةٍ عربيةٍ من لبنان

Instructor: they live in Lebanon now

هي: هما يسكُنانِ في لبنان الآن 

Instructor: she continues she likes Lebanon but it rains a lot in Lebanon 

هي: هي تَحب لبنان لكِن لبنان تمطرُ كثيرًاً

Instructor: last month it snowed

هي: الشَهر المَاضي تَساقَطَ الثَلج

Instructor: how would she say I have some photos for my brother and sister?

هي: لدَيّ بعَضُ الصُورِ لأخي و أ ُختي

Instructor: tell her, I would like to see your photos 

هو: أُحب ُأن أرَى صُوَرَكِ

هو: هي تقول

Instructor: if you won’t be doing anything later

هي:  اذا كنت لن تَفعلَ شَيئا فيما بعد   

Instructor: come to have dinner at our place 

هي: إحضَر لتتَناوَل العَشاءَ عندنا 

Instructor: say to her, I would like to see your photos 

هو: أُحب ُأن أرَى صُوَرَكِ
