speaking with an Arab woman. How would she say I’m a teacher?
هي: أنَا معلمة .. معلمة
Instructor: I work for the American university
هي: أعمَلُ في الجَامِعةِ الأمريكية
Instructor: tell her your wife teaches English
هو: زوجِي تُدَرِّسُ اللغةَ الانجِليزية
Instructor: now she says my sister is married to
an American
هي: أ ُختي مُتَزوِّجة من أمريكيّ
Instructor: they live in San Francisco
هو: سان فرانسيسكو
هي: يسكُنانِ في سان فرانسيسكو .. يسكُنان
Instructor: your wife grew up in San Francisco.
Here’s the word that means "she grew up"

Instructor: my brother is married to an Arab woman
هو: أخي مُتَزوّجٌ من إمرأةٍ عربية

Instructor: the weather is nice there in the summer
هي: الطَقسُ لَطيفٌ هُناك في الصَيف
Instructor: you planned to go to a friend’s house after work,
a colleague points to a place nearby saying, you can buy
some Levantine sweets there
هي: تستطيعُ أن تَشتَريَ بَعضَ الحَلوى الشرقية هناك.
Instructor: she says my sister is married to an American
هي: أ ُختي مُتَزوّجةٌ من أمريكيّ
Instructor: her husband grew up in Chicago.
هو: شِيكاغُو
هي: زَوجُها كبِرَ في شِيكاغُو.. شِيكاغُو
Instructor: how would she say my sister grew up in Lebanon?
هي: أ ُختي كبِرَت في لبنان
Instructor: she continues they live in San Francisco now.
هي:هما يَسكُنانِ في سَان فرانسيسكو الأن .. يَسكُنان
Instructor: tell her your son is studying there.
هو: إبني يَدرُسُ هُناك
Instructor: referring to her sister she wants to say she
lived there for a long time.
هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد
هي: سَكَنَت .. نَت .. سَكَنَت
Instructor: here’s how she says “for a long time”
هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد
هي: لفَترةٍ طَويِلة .. وِيِلَة .. طَويِلة .. فَترة....لفترة
هي: لفَترةٍ طَويِلة
Instructor: she says she lived in San Francisco for a
long time
هي: سَكَنَت في سان فرانسيسكو لفَترةٍ طَويِلة
هو: قل
Instructor: near the ocean
هو: قريبا ً من المحيط
Instructor: she says" it’s a beautiful city but it rains a lot"
هي: هي مدينةٌ جَميلة ولَكِن تمطرُ كَثيرا ً
Instructor: you want to say I was in San Francisco.
هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد
هو: أنا كنُتُ في سان فرانسيسكو .. كُنت
Instructor: tell her you were in San Francisco last month
هو: أنا كنُتُ في سان فرانسيسكو الشَهرَ المَاضي
Instructor: now tell her I was in Lebanon last month.
Remember month is a masculine word
هو: أنا كنُتُ في لبنان الشَهرَ المَاضي .. المَاضي
Instructor: do you remember how to say in the winter.
هو: في الشِتاء .. الشِتاء .. الشِتاء
Instructor: winter is also masculine.
So how would she say last winter?
هي: في الشِتاء المَاضي
هي: في الشِتاء المَاضي
Instructor: she says I was in San Francisco last winter
هي: أنا كَنتُ في سان فرانسيسكو الشِتاءَ المَاضي
Instructor: the weather was cold but it didn’t rain.

Instructor: near the ocean

Instructor: tell her my brother is married to an Arab woman
هو: أخي مُتَزوّجٌ من إمرأةٍ عربية
Instructor: say that next month you will have dinner with them.
هو: الشَهر القَادم سَأتنَاولُ العَشاءَ مَعهم
Instructor: his wife is a teacher
هو: زوجُهُ مُعلّمة.

Instructor: she teaches English

Company is a feminine word

Instructor: it rained a lot
هي: أمطرت كَثيرا ً
هو: هي تسأل

Instructor: you show her a picture of your brother and
his wife, say she is a teacher. She teaches a lot

Instructor: she teaches Arabic

Instructor: she asks where you learned Arabic.

.. عَلمتَ .. تَعلمتَ هي: أين تَعلمتَ اللغةَ العَربية؟

Instructor: how would she ask you, where did you learn Arabic?

Instructor: here’s how to say "easy"

Instructor: his wife grew up in Lebanon
هو: وزوجُه كبِرَت في لبنان
Instructor: ah you learned the Arabic language in Lebanon
هي: آه .. انتَ تَعلَمتُ اللغةَ العَربيةَ في لبنان
