Instructor: it rains a lot in the winter
هو: إنها تمطرُ كثيرًا في الشِتاء

Instructor: last winter I was in San Francisco
هي: في الشِتاءِ المَاضي كُنتُ في سان فرانسيسكو
Instructor: she continues, I learned English there
هي: تَعلمتَ اللغةَ الإنجلِيزيةَ هُناك

Instructor: but it wasn’t easy
هي: لَكِن... لم يَكُنِ الأمرُ سَهلاً
Instructor: I learned from an audio program

Instructor: to say the audio program, literally say the program

but the English language is very difficult

هي: الأن هُما يسكُنان في سَان فرانسيسكو قريبًا من المحيط.
Instructor: his wife is a teacher. She teaches English
هي: زَوجُه معلمة.. هي تُدَرِّسُ الإنجِليِزية
Instructor: tell her that your sister is a teacher too
هو: أ ُختي أيضا ً معلمة
Instructor: tell her she teaches in Damascus at University
هو: تُدَرِّس في دمشق في الجَامِعة
هو: أجِب
Instructor: She teaches English too
هو: هي تُدَرِّسُ اللغَةَ الإنجِليِزيةَ أيضا ً
هو: قُل الأن
Instructor: she is married to an Arab
هو: هي مُتَزوّجةٌ من عربيّ
Instructor: my sister has lived in Damascus for a long time
هو: أختي سكنت في دمشق لفَترةٍ طَويلة
Instructor: her husband is a manager for a company
in Damascus
هو: زَوجُها يَعملُ مُديرًا في شَركةٍ في دمشق

the English language very well
هي: أخي يَتَحدَث ُ اللغَةَ الإنجِليِزيةَ جيد جدا ً
Instructor: she tells you, last winter I was in San Francesco with them
هي: كُنتُ معهُم في الشِتاءِ المَاضي
Instructor: how would she say, I learned in a university
هي: تَعلَمت ُ في الجَامعِة
Instructor: but it wasn’t easy

Instructor: I learned the English language at a university
هي: تَعلَمت ُ اللغَةَ الإنجليزيةَ في الجَامعِة

Instructor: now she says to you, you speak the Arabic
language very well

Instructor: answer that you learned in America

Instructor: I tried to learn the Arabic language when I was a student

Instructor: I really tried but Arabic is not easy

How would she say, I think the English language is as difficult as Arabic?
هي: أعتقدُ أن اللغَةَ الإنجليزيةَ صَعبَةٌ مِثلَ اللغَةِ العَربية
Instructor: I really tried to learn the English language in America
هي: حقا ً أنا حَاوَلت تَعلُمَ اللغَةِ الإنجِليزيةِ في أمريكا
Instructor: here’s how she says but I didn’t grow up speaking
the English language
هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد
هي: لَكِني لم أكبُر على التَحدُثِ باللغةِ الإنجليزية
هي: لم أكبرُْ على التَحدُثِ باللغةِ الإنجليزية

Instructor: I think the English language is very easy
هو: أعتقدُ أن اللغَةَ الإنجليزيةَ سَهلةٌ جِدا ً
Instructor: how would she say but you grew up
speaking English right?
هي: لكِنكَ كبرتَ على التَحدَثِ بالإنجليزية. .... صحيح ؟
هو: قل
Instructor: yes, for me it wasn’t easy
هو: نعم, عندي لم يكَنِ الأمرُ سهلًا .
Instructor: my brother lives in Miami
هو: مَيَامي
هو: أخي يَسكُنُ في مَيَامي .. في مَيَامي
Instructor: she asks, near the ocean?
هي: قَريبًا من المحيط ؟
Instructor: yes, he is a branch manager in a bank
هو: نَعم , هو مُديرُ فَرع في مصرِف
هو: قُل
Instructor: he is married to an Arab woman
هو: هو مَتزوّجٌ من إمرأةٍ عربية
Instructor: his wife grew up in Alexandria
هو: زوجُه كبُرَت في الأسكندرية
Instructor: now she works for a company in Miami
هو: الأن هي تعَملُ في شَركةٍ في مَيَامي
هو: الأن أنتَ في مطعَم معَ زميل
Instructor: now you are at a restaurant with a colleague,
do you remember how to say green tea
هو: شاي أخضر
Instructor: ask your female colleague would you like green tea?
Remember you say literally the tea the green
هو: هل تُحبينَ الشاىَ الأخضر؟
هو: الشاىَ الأخضر
Instructor: or a glass of green tea
هو: أو كوبًا من الشايِ الأخضر
هو: شاى أخضر
هو: هي تقُول
Instructor: I prefer
هي: أُفَضِّل
هي: أ ُفَضِّل
Instructor: I prefer green tea
هي: أفَضِّلُ الشايَ الأخضَر

Instructor: try to say a pot of green tea
هو: إبِريق من الشَايِ الأخضَر
Instructor: how about a pot of green tea?
هو: ما رأيُكِ في إِبريقٍ من الشَاىِ الأخضَر ؟
Instructor: here’s the word for” we order”
هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد
هو: نحن نَطلُب .. نَطلُب .. نحن نطلب ... نطلب ...
Instructor: how do you say to her, how about we order?
هو: ما رأيُكِ أن نَطلب ؟ .. ما رأيُكِ أن نَطلُب ؟
Instructor: a pot of green tea
هو: ابِريق من الشَاىِ الأخضَر
Instructor: here’s the way he asks both of you, what would you
like to order?....for two persons only
هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد
هو: ماذا تحبانِ أن تطلبا ؟ .. تطلبا
هو: ماذا تحبانِ أن تطلبا ؟ .. تطلبا
Instructor: how does he ask, what would you like to order?
For more than two persons
هو: ماذا تَحبونَ أن تطلبوا ؟
هو: ماذا تَحبونَ أن تطلبوا ؟
Instructor: ask your female colleague how about we order a
pot of green tea?
هو: ما رأيُكِ أن نَطلُبَ ابِريقًا من الشَاى الأخضَر ؟
Instructor: here’s how you ask the waiter, what do you recommend?
هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد
هو: بماذا تَنصَح ؟ .. صَح .. تنصَح
هو: بماذا تَنصَح؟
Instructor: how does he ask you both, what would you like
to order? ….for two persons
هو: ماذا تَحبانِ أن تطَلبا ؟
هو: إسأل
Instructor: what do you recommend?
هو: بماذا تَنصَح ؟
Instructor: pointing he says this tea is from Morocco.
Literally this the tea from the Morocco
هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد
هو: هذا الشاي من المَغرٍب .. من المَغرٍب
هو: هذا الشاي من المَغرٍب
Instructor: pointing to another one in the list or this tea is good
هو: أو هذا الشَاي جَيد
Instructor: ask your female colleague, how about we order
هو: ما رأيُكِ أن نَطلُب ؟
Instructor: this tea from Morocco
هو: هذا الشاي من المَغرٍب
Instructor: the way he asks both of you again, what would
you like to order?.
..for two persons.
هو: ماذا تَحَبانِ أن تطلبا ؟
Instructor: try to answer, we will order a pot of green tea
هو: سنَطلُبُ إبِريقًا من الشَاىِ الأخضَر .. سنَطلُبُ إبريقًا من الشايِ الأخضر
Instructor: how does the waiter ask, this tea?
هو: هذا الشاي؟
Instructor: pointing to the list say, yes we will order a pot of this tea.
هو: نَعم سنَطلُبُ إبِريقًا من هذا الشَاى
Instructor: now say that your daughter has lived in Lebanon for a long time
هو: ابنتي سكنت في لبنان لفَترةٍ طَويلة
Instructor: her husband is a branch manager in Lebanon Bank
هو: مصرِف لبنان
هو: زَوجُها مُديرُ فَرع في مصرِف لبنان
Instructor: often in the winter I go to their place
هو: غالبًا في الشِتاء أذهَبُ إليهُم
Instructor: your colleague says my son is an engineer
هي: إبني مًهَندِس
Instructor: he works in a company in Beirut
هي: هُو يعَملُ في شَركةٍ في بيروت
Instructor: it rains a lot there but he likes Beirut
هي: إنها تُمطِرُ كَثيرا ً هُناك لكِنه يُحبُ بيروت
هو: الأن هي تَقول
Instructor: you speak Arabic very well
هي: أنتَ تتَحدَثُ العَربيةَ جيد جدا ً
Instructor: how would she ask, where did you
learn the Arabic language?
هي: أينَ تَعلمتَ اللغةَ العَربية ؟
هي: أينَ تَعلمتَ ؟
Instructor: answer you learned Arabic in America
هو: تَعلمت ُ اللغَةَ العَربيةَ في أمرِيكا
Instructor: from an audio program
هو: مِن بِرنامَجٍ صَوتيّ
Instructor: The Arabic language is very difficult

هو: حَاوَلتُ تَعلُمَ العَربيةِ عندما كُنت ُ طَالِبًا
Instructor: I learned Arabic at a university
هو: تَعلَمت ُ العربيةَ في الجَامعِة
Instructor: now it’s another day and you’re at a restaurant with a colleague, how would the waiter ask you both what you would like to order?
هو: ماذا تَحبانِ أن تطلبا ؟
Instructor: how does your colleague ask him, what you recommend?
هي: بماذا تَنصَح ؟
هي: بماذا تَنصَح ؟
Instructor: pointing he says, this tea is from Morocco. It’s very good
هو: هذا الشَاي من المَغرٍب .... إنهُ جَيدٌ جِدا ً
Instructor: note the word" tea" is masculine….that is why It takes
هو: إنهُ ....إنهُ ....إنهُ جيدٌ جدًا
Instructor: later how does he ask you both again what you like to order?
هو: ماذا تَحبانِ أن تطلبا ؟
Instructor: there are a lot of different teas, ask what you recommend
هو: بماذا تَنصَح ؟
Instructor: ask your female colleague, how about ordering a pot of tea
هو: ما رأيُكِ أن نَطلُبَ إبريقًا من الشاي ؟
Instructor: she agrees; ask the waiter again what you recommend
هو: بماذا تَنصَح ؟
Instructor: he says: " this tea is from Morocco"
هو: هذا الشَاي من المَغرٍب
هو: هي تَقُول
Instructor: yes great
هي: نعَم عظيم
Instructor: try to tell the waiter, we will order a pot of green tea
هو: سنَطلُبُ ابِريقًا من الشَاى الأخضَر
Instructor: pointing you say, we will order this tea from Morocco
هو: سنَطلُبُ هذا الشَاي من المَغرٍب
Instructor: we will have dinner later
هو: سنَتنَاوَلُ العَشاءَ فيما بعد
Instructor: now your colleague says, you speak Arabic very well
هي: أنتَ تتَحدَثُ العَربيةَ جيد جدا ً
Instructor: how would she ask, where did you learn it
هي: أينَ تَعلمتَه ؟ (ملحوظة للراوية بالفتحة على التاء الثانية )
هي: أينَ تَعلمتَه ؟
Instructor: answer:" I learned Arabic in America"
هو: أنا تَعلمت ُ العَربيةَ في أمرِيكا
Instructor: I learned from an audio program
هو: مِن بِرنامَجٍ صَوتيّ
Instructor: Arabic is not difficult
هو: العَربيةُ لَيسَت صَعبةً
