Instructor: suppose that you and an acquaintance at a restaurant in
the evening, how is the way they greet you?

Instructor: How do you say the menu?

Instructor: a little later, he asks you both what you would like to order.

Instructor: he asks again what you would like to order.
هو: ماذا تَطلبون ؟
Instructor: you are still not sure; ask him again,
what do you recommend?
هي: بمَاذا تنصَحُنا ؟
Instructor: ask your female companion, how about ordering a pot of tea
هو: مَا رأيُكِ أن نَطَلبَ ابِريقًا مِن الشَاى ؟

Instructor: she agrees; ask the waiter again, what do you recommend?

Instructor: the waiter asks you both what you would like to order.

هو: إبِريق مِن الشَاى .. ؟
Instructor: your companion says to you:"yes and how about ordering….."
هي: نَعم, ومَا رأيُكَ أن نَطلُب.. مَا رأيُكَ

هي: بَعضَ الحَلوى
Instructor: tell the waiter, we will order a pot of green tea please?
هو: سنَطلُبُ ابِريقًا من الشَاىِ الأخضَر من فَضلِك.... ( ملحوظة للراوي بكسر اللام في كلمة "فضلِك " سواء في مخاطبة المذكر أو المؤنث)
Instructor: some sweets
هي: و بَعضَ الحَلوى
Instructor: he answers, yes very good sir.
هو: نَعم , جَيد جدا ً يا أخي
Instructor: now your companion says to you, you speak Arabic
very well. Where did you learn it?
هي: أنتَ تتَحدَثُ العَربيةَ جيد جدا ً .. أينَ تَعلمتَه ؟

Instructor: I learned Arabic language in America

Instructor: now you are in a restaurant with another friend,
she suggests to you, how about ordering some sweets
هي: مَا رأيُكَ أن نَطَلبَ بَعض الحَلوى ؟
Instructor: how do you ask the waiter for the menu?
هو: قَائِمةُ الطَعاَمِ من فَضلِك ؟
Instructor: looking at the choices, you say this tea I think
هو: أعتقدُ هَذا الشَاي

Instructor: she goes to get them and says here are your papers

Instructor: she continues:"your papers, they’re in English"
هي: أوراقُكَ باللغَةِ الإنجلِيزية
Instructor: yes, I always write in English language

Instructor: I tried to learn Arabic
هو: حَاوَلتُ أن أتَعلُمَ العَربية
Instructor: say that you learned it at a university
هو: تَعلَمتُها في الجَامعِة
Instructor: and an audio program is very good
هو: والبَرنامَج الصَوتيّ جَيد جدا ً
Instructor: but it wasn’t easy.
هي: لَكِن الأمرَ لم يَكُن سَهلا ً

Instructor: she answers your papers were on the table
هي: أوراقُكَ كَانوا على المِنضَدة
Instructor: under a book
هي: تَحتَ كِتاب
هو: قَل
Instructor: my papers were under a book
هو: أوراقِي كَانوا تَحتَ كِتاب
Instructor: now she wants to ask, if this pen is yours.
Here is how to say “yours” or “it’s yours” to a man
هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد
هي: لك
هي: لك
Instructor: literally to you, she asks is it yours this pen
هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد
هي: هل هذا القَلَمُ لك ؟ .. هذا القَلَم .. القَلَم

هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد

Instructor: here’s how to say, yes it’s mine

Instructor: she tells you, your pen is next to your papers.
Here’s how she says next to
هو: ﺇستَمع وأعِد
هي: بِجوار .. بِجوار
Instructor: how would she say “next to?”
هي: بِجوار
Instructor: say together “on the table” “under a book”
هي: على المِنضَدة .. تَحتَ كِتاب
هو: الأن قُل
Instructor: next to
هي: بِجوار
Instructor: how would she say” your pen was next to your papers”
هي: قَلَمُكَ كَان بِجوارِ أوراقِك .. قَلَمَك
Instructor: notice that you used كان because pen is a masculine word.
How do you ask her, did you see my pen?
هو: هل رَأيتِ قَلَمي؟
هو: هل رَأيتِ قَلَمي؟
Instructor: how would she ask you, is it yours this pen?
هي: هل هذا القَلَمُ لك ؟
هي: هل هذا القَلَمُ لك ؟
Instructor: referring to the pen say, yes..yes , its mine thank you
هو: نَعَم .. نَعَم . هو قَلَمي .. شُكرا ً
هو: هو قَلَمي .. شُكرا ً
هو:اسأل
Instructor: where was my pen?
هو: أين َ كَان قَلَمي ؟
Instructor: referring to the pen, she answers, it was on the table

هي: بِجوارِ أوراقِك

Instructor: my papers?
