عَيْنَاهَا بُنٌ يَمَنِيٌ

Her eyes are like Yemeni coffee beans

Aynaha bonnon yamaneyoun.

وَ الشَعْرُ لَيَالٍ نَجْدِيَة

Her hair is like Nadjdi nights.

wa-sha'aro layalin nadjdeyah.

تَمْشِي كَغَزَالٍ لِيبِيٍ

She walks as Libyan gazelle.

tamshy ka-ghazalin lebeyin.

وَ الخَدُ وُرُودٌ شَامِيَة

Her cheek are like Levantine roses. 

wa-lkhadou worodon shameyah. 

فِي تُونُسَ حِكْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا

In Tunis, I tailored a dress for her. 

fi tunuso hektou laha thawban .

وَ خُيوُطُ الثَوْبِ عِرَاقِيَة

The threads are Iraqis.

wa khoyoutou-thawbi eraqeyah. 

وَ الشَالُ مِنْ الدَارِ البَيْضَاء

Her shawl is from Casablanca.

wa-shalou mina-ddari elbaydah.

وَ الهَيْئِةُ تَبْدُو خَلِيجِيَّة

Her shape seems Khaliji. 

wa-lhay'atou tabdou khalijeyah.

زَارَتْ وَهْرَانَ وَ قَدْ وَجَدَتْ

She visited Oran (in Algeria) and found...

zarat wahrana wa qad wadjadat...

بِعُمَانَ خُيُولًا مِصْرِيَة

Egyptian horses in Oman.

be-omana khoyoulon mesreyah.

فمَضَتْ لِلأُرْدُنِ كَيْ تَحْظَى بِقَصِيدَة شِعْرٍ نَبَطِيَّة

She went to Jordan to enjoy a Nabataean poem.

famadat lelordoni kay tahza beqaseedati she'rin nabateyah.

وَ دَعَتْ لِله...دَعَتْ لله

Then she prayed to god....prayed to god...

wa da'atlellah....wa da'atlellah...

وَ دَعَتْ لله بَأَنْ يَحْمِي وَ يَصُونَ القُدْسَ العَرَبِيَّة

She prayed to god to protect and preserve the Arabian Jerusalem.

wa da'atlellah be'an yahmy wa yasouna alqudsa alarabeyah.

Letter sheen

Our guest today is letter sheen....It sounds like "sh" in English language.

Let's do a very wonderful exercise together ...we may write down four plant names that start with sheen letter in Arabic.

شَمَنْدَرْ=  shamandar = Beet

beet

شَمَرْ=  shamar = Fennel

fennel

شَبَتْ= shabat =Dill

dill

شَمَّامْ = shammam = Melon

melon

It is very similar to letter seen in writing except ..the only difference in writing is adding three dots over .

The dots are very important in Arabic writing as they are not an optional thing in modern Arabic writing, unlike accents.

In Arabic modern writing we may choose to add or not add accents as It depends on how excellent is the reader.

Watch for how the letter shows in different positions of a word.

Adverbs

Today I will explain some adverbs in Arabic language........Listen to this video..

Nice........is not it ?.....All over the video clip , especially at the beginning you will hear frequently :

    daeman    daeman   ..... daeman......(the pronunciation in Latino letters)

It means in  English language  " always".....the adverb always....

In Arabic language :  " دائماً "

we do have adverbs in Arabic language exactly as in English language..........

Another adverb in the same video clip  you will hear it after " دائماً " ...It is ...أبداً

أبداً

is pronounced in Latino letters  : " abadan " ......and it means in English  Ever .

so now you have learned two adverbs ......very 

useful to use in life situations and dialogue...

Another important tiny lesson here .........open up your mind and heart ........

You remember in first grammar post I told you about accents and how they are important to pronounce words properly and it reflects some other grammar issues ......

we called it in Arabic language " تشكيل "  or " tashkeel"...  ...fat'haa ...dhammah ....cus'rah....sukon ......shaddah

Today I will present another new accent ......It is called " tanween "   ....

Tanween is to add double fat'haa or double cus'rah 

or double dhammah  on the last letter of a word

 ....and it appeals only to nouns , adverbs, and 

adjectives .......which means it does not go with

 verbs or pronouns.

ً      double fat’haa

ٌ   double dhammah

ٍ     double cus’rah

Here we have  the two adverbs  " دائماً " and    " أبداً"

and they are ending with double fat'hah ....

I hear a smart body from faraway asking me ...why do we call it tanween ???........hmmmmm.....good question.

We call it " tanween " because it adds the sound of Arabic letter " ن " ....or to make easy for you to understand .....this accent adds the sound  of  letter " n" in English language........only in pronunciation ......and not to add it into the actual writing .

I hope I did not loose you .......is it clear enough ???......anyways .....we will talk about these accents all over again .......in upcoming posts.

Ana = أنا =  I

Anta= أنتَ =(You )(singular)(muscline) 
Anti = أنتِ = (You)(singular)(feminine)

Howa=هو = He

Heia =هي = She

Antum = أنتم =(You )(plural)(muculine)
Antunna= أنتنّ= (You)( plural)(feminine)

na7no = نحن = We 

Hom = هم = masculine - They

Honna = هنَّ =  feminine - They

We do not have the pronoun *it* in Arabic language....

they are easy as you see .................your assignment for today is to try to write them down in order to train your self of how the Arabic letters are joined together to form one word.

For pre-kindergarten age ....Just let your child listen to lyrics and songs as much as you can and stress only on the letters .....how they look .....how they spell.....one word for each letter........

كُن جميلاً

This phrase is full of  beauty simply, because it says :  Be Beautiful.

Beauty is such an important value in Arabic language showed in Arabic calligraphy ....refer to our slide show.

our first word today is :

ك  + ن =   كُن  =  Be = kun

watch for letter ( kaaf ) .. ...at the beginning of the word how it is written ...try it out.

Second word is :

ج + م + ي + ل + ا =  جميلاً  =  Jameelan =Beautiful

watch for letter ( jeem ) at the beginning of the word and how it is written ........try it out

Tal'aa albadr - طلع البدر - full moon came up

I would like to invite you to listen to this fabulous lyric and video clip.

Did you listen to the repetitive phrase  " tala'a Albadr "  which is actually the title of the lyrics.

full moon is in Arabic :  بدر

Then we add  the definite  :  ال

exactly as adding     :   THE

so it is :            البدر

La elaha ella allah - No god but Allah

How about this one ? ............is it nice ? .........

I would like you to hear this repetitive sentence all over.

 ......... our lesson today is about this phrase that contains  only  3 letters in a very fabulous 4 words only ......

لا إله إلا الله

The first word is  :           لا

It means in English  " No "  ....... ( refer to my previous posts )

The second word is :        إله

It means in English  " god "...............إ ...ل....ه

The third word is :                إلا

It means in English  " but ".................................إ....ل....ا

The  fourth word is :               الله

It means in English  " allah"..................ا....ل...ل...ه

This sentence is part of our Arabic language creativity......... 3 letters to form very fabulous 4 words.

Also, I would like to spot the light on how each letter shows in the beginning , middle, and at the end of the word.

Arabic for no Arabic presents the letter Baa through the word
 ( Al- bortuqal )

البرتقال

which means orange fruit.

I hear some brilliant comment from far away saying: " what is  ال ? " which appears before the the letter BAA.

ال consists of  two letters :  letter Alef  ا without hamza ( refer to my previous posts) and  letter Lam ل

the two letters  ال come before any noun to identify the noun, exactly as  " THE" in English language.

the difference here is that  ال should be attached to the noun as one word.

To enrich your information; the word ( Al-burtuqal ) resembles the word ( Portugal ) the famous country .

The word Portugal has an Arabic origin as it is named after ( Al-burtuqal ) by Arab conquerers where oranges were heavily cultivated at that time.

familiarize and try to pick more words with the sound " BAA" through Arabic for non Arabic.

letter Alif - حرف الألف

Letter Alif is our first guest today in Arabic for non Arabic.

I would like to spot the light on the difference between two kinds of Alif ......

Alif with Hamza   ......... أ

ِAlif without Hamza ...... ا

I think you see the difference .............it is hamza   ...... ء

which may appear on the top of  this stick ( looking like number 1) ....

Notice the words in our video for today which may have Hamza or not ......

Also I hear a very brilliant  body saying :  Hamza sometimes appear below the ( Alif)........YESSSSS my dear sometimes it does happen  as in  : إبراهيم

which means in English  : Ibraham

Let's pick some words together.

أرنب = rabbit = Arnab

أفعى = snake = af 'aa

Remember to familiarize as much as you can ........
