هُوَ : آَتِيَةٌ لِتَزُورَنَا

Instructor: She's coming to visit us ..and

هُوَ :إنهُ غَدَاً

Instructor: That's tomorrow

هُوَ : اِسْتَمِع :

هِيَ : تَفَضَّل هذه رِسَالَة من زَمِيْلتك ألين ، هِيَ آَتِيَةٌ لِتَزُورَنَا يوم الثُّلَاثَاء

هُوَ : الثُّلَاثَاء ؟ إنهُ غَدَاً ؟ في أَي سَاعَة ؟

هِيَ : زَمِيْلتكَ آَتِيَةٌ إلى دبي السَّاعَة الثَّامِنَة إلا عَشْرَة دَقَائِق

هُوَ : حَسَنَاً

هُوَ : اِسْتَمِع مرة أخرى :

هِيَ : تَفَضَّل هذه رِسَالَة من زَمِيْلتك ألين ، هِيَ آَتِيَةٌ لِتَزُورَنَا يوم الثُّلَاثَاء

هُوَ : الثُّلَاثَاء ؟ إنهُ غَدَاً ؟ في أَي سَاعَة ؟

هِيَ : زَمِيْلتكَ آَتِيَةٌ إلى دبي السَّاعَة الثَّامِنَة إلا عَشْرَة دَقَائِق

هُوَ : حَسَنَاً

Instructor : Now suppose you're talking to
your friend , ask her : how
is it going ?

هُوَ : كَيْفَ الحَال ؟

Instructor : How does she answer : not bad…
thank God

هِيَ : لَا بَأْس...الحمدُ لله

Instructor : She tells you about a colleague and his wife.
what's the name of your colleague ?

هُوَ : ما اسم زَمِيْلكِ ؟

Instructor : His name is Sami , he is Canadian

هِيَ : اِسْمُه سامي ، هُوَ كَنَدِي

Instructor : His wife’s name is Maryam

هِيَ: اسم زوجُه مَرْيَم

Instructor : How does she say : we will have
lunch at one o'clock

هِيَ : سَنَأكل الغَدَاء السَّاعَة الوَاحِدَة

هُوَ : اسأل :

Instructor : Where ? at your place right ?

هُوَ : أينَ ؟ عندَكِ ، أَلَيْسَ كَذَلِكَ ؟

Instructor : She says : no , at Al-mashawi restaurant

هُوَ : اِسْتَمِع وكَرِّرْ

هِيَ : لا في مَطْعَم المشاوي

Instructor : We will have lunch at
the restaurant , of course

هِيَ : سَنَتَنَاوَلُ الغَدَاء في المَطْعَم ، طَبْعَاً

Instructor : Not at my place

هِيَ : ليس عِنْدِي

هُوَ : اسأل :

Instructor : Do you want my car ?

هُوَ : هل تُرِيْدِيْنَ سَيَّارَتِي؟

Instructor : No..  no , we will go to the restaurant by taxi

هِيَ : لا ، لا سَنَذْهَب إلى المَطْعَم بسَيَّارَة الأُجْرَة

هُوَ : قل :

Instructor : I take a taxi often

هُوَ : آَخُذُ سَيَّارَة الأُجْرَة غالباً

Instructor : But sometimes I go there by bus

هُوَ : لكن أَحْيَأَنَا أَذْهَب إلى هُنَاكَ بالحافلة

Instructor : She continues : we will have lunch
at one o'clock

هِيَ : سَنَأكل الغَدَاء السَّاعَة الوَاحِدَة

Instructor : She says : he wants to buy
something for his wife

هِيَ : هُوَ يُرِيْدُ أن يَشْتَرِيَ شَيْئَاً لزوجِه

Instructor : My colleague wants to buy a shirt

هِيَ : زَمِيْلي يُرِيْدُ أن يَشْتَرِيَ قَمِيْصاً

Instructor : Correcting herself she says : a few shirts

هُوَ : اِسْتَمِع وكَرِّرْ :

هِيَ : بَعْضَ قُمْصَان

Instructor : Say together " a shirt " , " a few shirts "

هِيَ : قَمِيْص ، بَعْضَ قُمْصَان

Instructor :We will have lunch at the restaurant first

هو: سَنَأكلُ الغَدَاء في المَطْعَم أَوَلَاً

Instructor : Later how would your friend say : I can buy some shirts

هِيَ : أستطيعُ أن أشتريَ بَعْضَ القُمْصَان

Instructor : Hear and then say : your female friend
…. To a woman

هُوَ : صديقتُكِ

Instructor : Referring to a woman , ask her
: you will buy a few
shirts for your friend , right ?

هُوَ : ستشترينَ بَعْضَ القُمْصَانِ لصديقتكِ ، أَلَيْسَ كَذَلِكَ؟

Instructor : No… for my friends , the Americans

هِيَ : لا لأصدقائي ، الأمريكان

Instructor : They're coming to my place to
visit me….the pronoun
"they" here refers to more than two persons.

هِيَ : هم آَتُونَ عِنْدِي لِيَزُورُونِي

Instructor : She checks a letter she's carrying and says :
they're coming on Monday

هِيَ : هم آَتُونَ الاثْنَيْن

هُوَ : اسأل :

Instructor : How long will they stay at your place ?....
the pronoun 'they" here refers to more than two persons.

هُوَ : كم سَيمكثون عندكِ ؟

Instructor : She answers : until Tuesday

هِيَ : حَتَّى يوم الثُّلَاثَاء

هُوَ : قل :

Instructor : They're coming on Monday

هُوَ : آَتُونَ يوم الاثْنَيْن

try to ask : and they will stay until Tuesday night ?

هُوَ : وسَيمكثون حَتَّى يوم الثُّلَاثَاء ؟

Instructor : Ask if she will buy some shirts

هُوَ : ستشترينَ بَعْضَ القُمْصَان ؟

Instructor : She says : of course , I want to go down
town with my friend Mona

هِيَ : طَبْعَاً ، أُرِيْدُ أن أَذْهَب إلى وسط ِالبَلَد مع صديقتي منى

Instructor : Can you take the bus ?

هُوَ : هل تستطيعينَ أن تآَخُذي الحافلة ؟

هُوَ : اسأل :

Instructor : Do you want my car ?

هُوَ : هل تُرِيْدِيْنَ سَيَّارَتِي ؟

Instructor : No , no I want to go down town by a taxi

هِيَ : لا ..لا ..أُرِيْدُ أن أَذْهَب إلى وسطِ البَلَد بسَيَّارَة الأُجْرَة

هُوَ : الآن قل :

Instructor : It's ten to two , literally it's two
hours but ten minutes

هُوَ : السَّاعَة الثانية إلا عَشْرَة دَقَائِق

Instructor : I want to go down town now too

هُوَ : أُرِيْدُ أن أَذْهَب إلى وسطِ البَلَد الآن أيضاً

Instructor : How about we go down town together

هُوَ : ما رأيكِ أن نَذْهَب إلى وسط ِالبَلَد مَعَاً ؟

Instructor : How does she say : I want to go to the stores
with my friend Mona

هِيَ : أُرِيْدُ أن أَذْهَب إلى المَتاجر مع صديقتي منى

هُوَ : اسأل :

Instructor : How about we go to the stores together?

هُوَ : مَا رَأيكِ أن نَذْهَب إلى المَتاجر مَعَاً ؟

Instructor : She says : ok , we can take the bus

هِيَ : حَسَنَاً ، نحن نستطيعُ أن نأخُذ الحافلة

Instructor : At ten to three together

هِيَ : السَّاعَة الثالثة إلا عَشْرَة دَقَائِق مَعَاً

هُوَ : الآن اسأل:

Instructor : Do you have time to have coffee first ?

هُوَ : هل عندكِ وقتاَ لتشربي قهُوَة أَوَلَاً ؟

Instructor : How does she answer : yes , how about we
go to the Arab café' together?

هِيَ : نعم ، ما رأيكَ أن نَذْهَب إلى مقهي العرب مَعَاً ؟

Instructor : Later at the café' , you want to see the letter
she received , ask her : do you have the letter ?

هُوَ : هل مَعَكِ الرِّسَالَة ؟

Instructor : She says : yes here it is

هِيَ : نعم ، تَفَضَّل

Instructor : The letter is from my colleague Ellen

هِيَ : الرِّسَالَة من زَمِيْلتي الين

Instructor : She and her husband are coming to visit me

هِيَ : هِيَ وزوجُها آَتُيانِ لِيَزُورانِي

هُوَ : كيف تَقُول ؟

Instructor : I'm going to work , or I will work

هُوَ : سَأعمَل

Instructor : Now hear and then say : he works

هُوَ : اِسْتَمِع وكَرِّرْ

هِيَ : يَعْمَل

Instructor : Her husband works in Dubai sometimes

هِيَ : زوجُها يَعْمَل في دبي أَحْيَأَنَا

Instructor : Now your friend is making dinner plans ,
do you remember how to say : we will have dinner ?

هِيَ : سَنَأكلُ العشاء

Instructor : She says : we will have dinner at twenty to seven

هُوَ : اِسْتَمِع وكَرِّرْ

هِيَ : سَنَأكلُ العشاء السَّاعَة السَّابِعَة إلا الثُلث

Instructor : literally at seven minus a third , now how would
she say or at twenty after seven , literally at seven and a third

هِيَ : أو السَّاعَة السَّابِعَة والثُلث

Instructor : She says : my husband works until five o'clock

هِيَ : زوجي يَعْمَلُ حَتَّى السَّاعَة الخامسة

Instructor : But on Tuesday

هِيَ : لَكِنِ الثُّلَاثَاء

Instructor : He works until six o'clock

هِيَ : هُوَ يَعْمَل حَتَّى السَّاعَة السادسة

Instructor : Now here's : he prefers

هِيَ : هُوَ يُفَضِّلُ

Instructor : She says : he prefers to go to the restaurant
on Tuesday

هُوَ : اِسْتَمِع وكَرِّرْ

هِيَ : هُوَ يُفَضِّلُ أن نَذْهَب إلى المَطْعَم يوم الثُّلَاثَاء

Instructor : She says : how about we go ?

هِيَ : ما رأيكَ أن نَذْهَبَ ؟

Instructor : To Al-Mashawi restaurant

هِيَ : إلى مَطْعَمِ المشاوي

Instructor : At eight o'clock

هِيَ : في السَّاعَة الثَّامِنَة

هُوَ : أجب :

Instructor : Ok but maybe a bit later ?

هُوَ : حَسَنَاً ، لكن ربما بَعْدَ قليل ؟

Instructor : My wife wants to buy something first

هُوَ : زوجي تريد أن تشتري شَيْئَاً أَوَلَاً

Instructor : At twenty after eight ?

هُوَ : السَّاعَة الثَّامِنَة والثُّلُث ؟

Instructor : Your friend says : yes , of course

هِيَ : نعم طَبْعَاً

Instructor : On Tuesday my husband works until six o'clock

هِيَ : يوم الثُّلَاثَاء زوجي يَعْمَلُ حَتَّى السَّاعَة السَّادِسة

Instructor : And he prefers to go to the restaurant

هِيَ : وهُوَ يُفَضِّلُ أن نَذْهَب إلى المَطْعَم

Instructor : We can have dinner

هِيَ : نستطيعُ أن نأكل العشاء

Instructor : At twenty after eight

هِيَ : السَّاعَة الثَّامِنَة والثُّلُث

Instructor : Or at ten to nine

هِيَ : أو السَّاعَة التَّاسِعَة إلا عَشْرَة دَقَائِق

Instructor : How about we go to Al-Mashawi restaurant?

هِيَ : ما رأيكَ أن نَذْهَب إلى مَطْعَم المشاوي ؟

Instructor : At twenty to eight tonight

هِيَ : السَّاعَة الثَّامِنَة والثُّلُث اللَّيْلَة

Instructor : Now it's another day , and you're talking
with another friend , how does she say : here's a letter

هِيَ : تَفَضَّل ، رِسَالَة

Instructor : Try to ask her : a letter from your friend ?

هُوَ : رِسَالَة من صديقتِكِ ؟

Instructor : Yes from my friend Ellen

هِيَ : من صديقتي الين

Instructor : She's coming to visit me with her son

هِيَ : هِيَ آَتِيَةٌ لِتَزُورَنِي مع ابنها

هُوَ : اسأل : ما اِسْمُه ؟

Instructor : She answers : the name of her son is Maher

هِيَ : اسم ابنها ماهِر

Instructor : When's your friend coming with her son ?

هُوَ : مَتَى صديقتكِ آتية مع ابنها ؟

Instructor : They're coming on Friday..the pronoun "they "
here refers to two persons…

هِيَ : هُما آَتُيانِ الجُمُعَة

Instructor : How would she say " Friday " or " on Friday " ?

هِيَ : الجُمُعَة ، الجُمُعَة

Instructor : How do you ask : how long will
they stay at your place ?

هُوَ : كَمْ سَيَمكثانِ عندكِ ؟

Instructor : Until Monday or maybe until Tuesday

هِيَ : حَتَّى الاثْنَيْن أو رُبَّمَا حَتَّى الثُّلَاثَاء

Instructor : Ask again : when are they coming ?

هُوَ : مَتَى هما آَتُيانِ ؟

Instructor : How does she answer : on Friday ,
at ten after eight

هِيَ : الجُمُعَة ، السَّاعَة الثَّامِنَة وعَشْرَة دَقَائِق

Instructor : Try to say : at twenty after eight

هِيَ : السَّاعَة الثَّامِنَة والثُّلُث

هُوَ : اسأل :

Instructor : Not at twenty after nine? literally
not nine and a third

هُوَ : ليس السَّاعَة التَّاسِعَة والثُّلُث؟

Instructor : She says : no , they're coming at
twenty after eight

هِيَ : لا هما آَتُيانِ السَّاعَة الثَّامِنَة والثُّلُث

Instructor : Or at ten after eight

هِيَ : أو السَّاعَة الثَّامِنَة وعَشْرَة دَقَائِق

Instructor : Do you remember how to say
: she would like to drink
something

هِيَ : هِيَ تُحِبّ أن تشرب شَيْئَاً

Instructor : Remember that " like " is the same as "
would like " ,
how would your friend say : she likes

هِيَ : هِيَ تُحِبُّ

Instructor : She likes travelling or she likes to travel

هُوَ : اِسْتَمِع وكَرِّرْ :

هِيَ : هِيَ تُحِبُّ السَّفَرَ

Instructor : How would your friend say :
she likes to travel

هِيَ : هِيَ تُحِبُّ أن تُسَافِرَ

Instructor : But her husband works in Dubai
sometimes

هِيَ : لكن زوجها يَعْمَلُ في دبي أَحْيَأَنَا

Instructor : He doesn't like to travel

هِيَ : هُوَ لا يُحِبّ أن يُسَافِر

Instructor : She wants to say : he prefers
to stay at home ,
first here's : at home

هُوَ : اِسْتَمِع وكَرِّرْ :

هِيَ : في البَيْتِ

Instructor : Now here's "  stay " when
referring to a man

هُوَ : اِسْتَمِع وكَرِّرْ

هِيَ : يَمكث

هُوَ : كيف تَقُول :

Instructor : He prefers

هِيَ : يُفَضِّلُ

Instructor : Try to say for her : he prefers to stay at home

هِيَ : هُوَ يُفَضِّلُ أن يَمكثَ في البَيْتِ

Instructor : Now try to say : I don't like to stay at home

هُوَ : أَنَا لا أُحِبُّ أن أَمكثَ في البَيْتِ

Instructor : She continues by saying : her husband
doesn't like to travel

هِيَ : زوجها لا يُحِبُّ أن يُسَافِرَ

Instructor : He works a lot

هِيَ : هُوَ يَعْمَلُ كَثِيْرَاً

Instructor : He prefers to stay at home

هِيَ : هُوَ يُفَضِّلُ أن يَمكثَ في البَيْتِ

Instructor : Say again : I don't like to stay at home

هُوَ : أَنَا لا أُحِبّ أن أَمكثَ في البَيْتِ

Instructor : How does your friend say that
she likes to travel ?

هِيَ : أَنَا أُحِبّ أن أُسَافِرَ

Instructor : Ask her if she likes to go to
the countryside

هُوَ : اِسْتَمِع وكَرِّرْ

هُوَ : هل تُحِبّين أن تَذْهَبِي إلى الريف؟

Instructor : Speaking to a woman , how do you say :
to go to the countryside

هُوَ : تَذْهَبِين إلى الريف

هُوَ : اسأل :

Instructor : Would you like to go to the countryside with me ?

هُوَ : هل تَحبِيْنَ أن تَذْهَبِي إلى الريف مَعِي ؟

Instructor : She says that yes she would like to go

هِيَ : نعم أَحبُ أن أَذْهَب

Instructor : But I can't go to the countryside with you today

هِيَ : لَكِنَّنِي لا أَسْتَطِيع أن أَذْهَب مَعَك إلى الريف اليوم

Instructor : Maybe on Friday ?

هِيَ : رُبَّمَا الجُمُعَة ؟

هُوَ : قل :

Instructor : But your friend Ellen is coming on Friday

هُوَ : لكنْ صديقتكِ الين آَتِيَةٌ الجُمُعَة

Instructor : Yes her husband prefers to stay at home

هِيَ : نعم ، زوجها يُفَضِّلُ أن يَمكثَ في البَيْتِ

Instructor : She likes to travel

هِيَ : هِيَ تُحِبّ أن تُسَافِر

Instructor : And she likes to go to the countryside

هِيَ : وهِيَ تُحِبّ أن تذهب إلى الريف

Instructor : But her husband prefers to stay at home

هِيَ : لكن زوجها يُفَضِّلُ أن يَمكثَ في البَيْتِ

Instructor : How does she ask you : would you like
to go to the countryside on Friday ?

هِيَ : هل تحبُ أن تذهبَ إلى الريفِ الجُمُعَة ؟

هُوَ : أجب :

Instructor : Yes , Friday … it's good

هُوَ : نعَم الجُمُعَة جَيِّد

Instructor : How about we go on Friday with your friend Ellen ?

هُوَ : ما رأيكِ أن نَذْهَب الجُمُعَة مع صديقتكِ الين ؟

هِيَ : حَسَنَاً

Instructor : Now it's another day , how do
you ask another friend if she'd like to go to the countryside?

هُوَ : هل تَحبيْنَ أن تَذْهَبِي إلى الريف؟

هُوَ : الآن قل :

Instructor : My friend Charles is coming tomorrow

هُوَ : صديقي تشارلز آتٍ غَدَاً

Instructor : he prefers to stay at home

هُوَ : هُوَ يُفَضِّلُ أن يَمكثَ في البَيْتِ

Instructor : But he's coming to the countryside with me tomorrow

هُوَ : لكنه آتٍ إلى الريف مَعِي غَدَاً

Instructor : Try to tell her that's ten after seven

هُوَ : السَّاعَة السَّابِعَة وعَشْرَة دَقَائِق

Instructor : She says : that good but can we go later ?

هِيَ : جَيِّد لكن نستطيعُ أن نَذْهَب فيما بعد؟

Instructor : I want to buy a few shirts first

هِيَ : أُرِيْدُ أن أشتريَ بَعْضَ القُمْصَان أَوَلَاً

Instructor : Referring to a man she says : I want a shirt
for my colleague

هِيَ : أُرِيْدُ قَمِيْصاً لزَمِيْلي

Instructor : Say that you agree and ask her : at what time ?

هُوَ : في أَي سَاعَة ؟

Instructor : She says at twenty after eight , is that good ?

هِيَ : السَّاعَة الثَّامِنَة والثُّلُث ، هل هذا جَيِّد ؟

Instructor : You tell her that's fine and say : often I go
to the countryside

هُوَ : غالباً أَنَا أَذْهَب إلى الريف

هُوَ : الآن قل :

Instructor : My friend Charles prefers to stay at home

هُوَ : صديقي تشارلز يُفَضِّلُ أن يَمكثَ في البَيْتِ

Instructor : But he's coming to the countryside with me tomorrow

هُوَ : لكنه آتٍ إلى الريف مَعِي غَدَاً

Instructor : And he likes to travel

هُوَ : وهُوَ يُحِبّ أن يُسَافِر
