هو : اِسْتَمَعَ إِلَى هَذِهِ الَمْحَادَثَة :

Instructor : You hear

هو : مقهى العرب

Instructor : The Arab café

هو : شَارِع  الثورة

Instructor :  a street named
 "thawrah"…which means in English "revolution"

هو : مُنَى ، هَلْ عندكِ وَقْتاً لتَشْرَبي قَهْوَة ؟

هي : نَعَمْ طَبْعَاً ، أينَ تُحبُ أَنْ نذَهَبَ ؟

هو : هَلْ تَعْرِفين مقهي العرب ؟

هي : لَا ، أَيْنَ هَذا ؟

هو : فِي شَارِع الثورة ، لَيْسَت بَعِيدَة

هي : جَيِّد ، ولَكِن لَيْسَ عندي وَقْت كَثِيْر ، آَسِفَةٌ مَازَالَ عندي عَمَل كَثِيْر

هو : حَسَنَاً ، أَنَا أَيْضَاً

هو : استمع إلى هذه المحادثة مرة أخرى :

هو : مُنَى ، هَلْ عندكِ وَقْتاً لتَشْرَبي قَهْوَة ؟

هي : نَعَمْ طَبْعَاً ، أينَ تُحبُ أَنْ نذَهَبَ ؟

هو : هَلْ تَعْرِفين مقهي العرب ؟

هي : لَا ، أَيْنَ هَذا ؟

هو : فِي شَارِع الثورة ، لَيْسَت بَعِيدَة

هي : جَيِّد ، ولَكِن لَيْسَ عندي وَقْت كَثِيْر ، آَسِفَةٌ مَازَالَ عندي عَمَل كَثِيْر

هو : حَسَنَاً ، أَنَا أَيْضَاً

Instructor : Now you're with a colleague , how
do you ask her : do you have the time to have coffee ?

هو : هَلْ عندكِ وَقْتا ً لتَشْرَبِي قَهْوَة ؟

Instructor : Or a glass of tea ?

هو : أَو كوباً مِنَ الشَّاي ؟

Instructor : She says : a glass of tea ? OK

هي :كوباً من الشَّاي ؟ حَسَنَاً

Instructor : You want to ask her if she still likes red tea
, you say literally : the tea the red

هو : الشَّاي الاَحْمَر

Instructor : Try to ask : do you still like red tea ?

هو : هَلْ مازلتِ تحبين الشَّايَ الاَحْمَر ؟

Instructor : She answers : yes , I always drink red tea

هي : نَعَمْ ، أَنَا دَائِمَاً أَشْرَبُ الشَّاي الاَحْمَر

Instructor : How does she say : I don't like green tea

هي : أَنَا لَا أُحِبُّ الشَّاي الاَخْضَر

Instructor : And I never drink beer

هي : و لَا أَشْرَبُ البيرة أبدا ً

Instructor : How do you say that you always drink green tea ?

هو : دَائِمَاً أَشْرَبُ الشَّاي الاَخْضَر

Instructor : Later she sees the man she
knows , she says : there's a colleague of mine

هي : زميلي هناكَ

Instructor : Salem lives in Lattakia

هي : سَالِم يسكن في اللَّاذِقِيَّة

Instructor : He's a colleague of mine

هي : هُوَ زميلي

Instructor : She says : from Lattakia

هي : مِنَ اللَّاذِقِيَّة

Instructor : Say together "Lattakia" , "from Lattakia"

هي : اللَّاذِقِيَّة ، من اللَّاذِقِيَّة

Instructor : Now she has to leave , you confirm plans
for later and she agrees saying : alright , bye

هي : حَسَنَاً ،  بإِذْنِك

Instructor : On another day , how does your
colleague ask if you still have a lot of work

هي : هَلْ مَازَالَ عندكَ الكَثِيْر من العَمَل ؟

هو : أجب :

Instructor : No , not always

هو : لَا ، لَيْسَ دَائِمَاً

Instructor : And I had too much work yesterday , but ….

هو : و كان عندي عَمَل كَثِيْر جِدَّاً البَارِحَة ، لَكِن .....

Instructor : I don't have a lot of work today

هو : لَيْسَ عندي الكَثِيْر مِنَ العَمَل اليَوْم

Instructor : Ask her if she has time to have coffee

هو : هَلْ عندكِ وَقْتاً لتَشْرَبي قَهْوَة ؟

Instructor : She says : OK , always I have time to drink coffee

هي : حَسَنَاً ، دَائِمَاً عندي وَقْتاً لأَشْرَبَ القَهْوَة

Instructor : Unfortunately

هي : آَسِفَةٌ

Instructor : Today , I don't have much time

هي : اليَوْم لَيْسَ عندي وَقْت كَثِيْر

Instructor : I have to leave at 2 o'clock

هي : يَجِبُ أن أُرحل السَّاعَة الثَّانيَة

Instructor : Referring to a woman , she says : a friend of mine

هي : صَدِيْقَتِي

Instructor : Is coming

هي : آَتِيَة

Instructor : She says : she's coming from Canada

هي : هِيَ آَتِيَةٌ من كَنَدَا

Instructor : How does she say : my friend is coming later

هي : صَدِيْقَتِي آَتِيَة فيما بعد

Instructor : She's coming to visit me

هي : هِيَ آَتِيَةٌ لتَزُوْرَنِي

Instructor : My friend is coming to visit me today

هي : صَدِيْقَتِي آَتِيَة لتَزُوْرَنِي اليَوْم

Instructor : And I have too much work

هي : و عندي عَمَل كَثِيْر جِدَّاً

Instructor : Ask her : do you still have the time to have coffee with me

هو : هَلْ مازال عندكِ وَقْت لتَشْرَبي قَهْوَة مَعِي ؟

Instructor : She says : I never drink beer

هي : أنا لا أَشْرَبُ بيرة أبداً

Instructor : I have the time to have coffee now

هي : عندي الوَقْتَ لأَشْرَبَ قَهْوَةً الآنَ

Instructor : Referring to a woman say : a friend of
mine is coming to visit me

هي : صَدِيْقَتِي آَتِيَة لتَزُوْرَنِي

Instructor : She says : a colleague of mine , referring to a woman

هي : زَمِيلَتِي

Instructor : Referring to a woman , how does she say
: my colleague is coming to visit me

هي : زَمِيلَتِي آَتِيَةٌ لتَزُوْرَنِي

Instructor : Do you remember how to say : his wife

هي : زَوجُه

Instructor : Hear and then say : her husband

هي : زَوجُهَا

Instructor : Now how does she say : she's coming
with her husband

هي : هِيَ آَتِيَةٌ مَعَ زَوجِهَا

Instructor : My colleague is from Damascus

هي : زَمِيلَتِي مِنْ دِمَشْق

Instructor : But her husband is from Canada

هي : لَكِن زَوجُهَا مِنْ كَنَدَا

Instructor : Referring to the husband how do you
ask her : do you know him ?

هو : هَلْ تَعْرِفيهِ  ؟

Instructor : Do you remember how to say : his daughter

هي : ابْنتُهُ

Instructor : Can you guess the word a colleague
of yours would say for : her son

هي : ابْنهَا

Instructor : How would she say : her son still lives here

هي : ابنُهَا مَازَالَ يسكنُ هُنَا

Instructor : My colleague would like to see her son

هي : زَمِيلَتِي تُحبُ أن تَرَى ابنَهَا

Instructor : Referring to her son , ask your
colleague if she knows him

هو : هَلْ تَعْرِفيه ؟

Instructor : She says that she does , then ask
: does he like Damascus

هو : هَلْ يُحِبُّ دِمَشْق ؟

Instructor : She says : yes . and you leave together
to have your coffee , she reminds you : my colleague
is coming to visit me

هي : زَمِيلَتِي آَتِيَةٌ لتَزُوْرَنِي

Instructor : She says that she hasn't seen her colleague for a year
….now listen to the word year.

هي : سَنَة

Instructor : How does she say : for a year

هي : مُنْذ سَنَة

Instructor : How would she say : I haven't seen
my colleague for a year

هي : لَمْ أرَ زَمِيلَتِي منذ سَنَة

Instructor : I haven't seen her

هي : لَمْ أرَهَا

Instructor : I haven't seen her for a year

هي : لَمْ أرَهَا منذُُ سَنَة

Instructor : For two years

هي : منذُ سَنَتَيْنِ

Instructor : And I haven't seen her husband for two years

هي : لم أرَ زوجهَا منذ سَنَتَيْنِ

Instructor : Your colleague says : she's coming
with her husband

هي : هِيَ آَتِيَة مَعَ زَوجِهَا

Instructor : And how do you say : his wife

هي : زَوجُه

Instructor : Her son

هي : ابْنُهَا

Instructor : They're coming today

هي : هم آَتُونَ اليَوْم

Instructor : What's the Arabic word for " they're coming " ?

هي : هم آَتُونَ

Instructor : The word for " visit me " changes when
you're referring to more than one person

Instructor : She says : they're coming to visit me

هي : هم آَتُونَ لِيَزُورُونِي

Instructor : She says again that they're
coming today

هي : هم آَتُونَ اليَوْم

Instructor : My colleague and her husband

هي : زَمِيلَتِي وزوجُهَا

Instructor : Are coming to visit me

هي : آَتُونَ لِيَزُورُونِي

Instructor : I haven't seen her for a year

هي : لم أرَهَا من سَنَة

Instructor : But I saw her son yesterday

هي : لَكِنَّي رَأَيتُ ابنهَا البَارِحَة

Instructor : I saw him yesterday morning

هي : رأيتُه البَارِحَة صَبَاحاً

Instructor : Ask : does her son live in Damascus

هو : هَلْ ابنهَا سَاكِنٌ في دِمَشْق ؟

Instructor : She says : yes my colleague wants to see her son

هي : نَعَمْ ، زَمِيلَتِي تُرِيدُ أَنْ تَرَى ابنَهَا

Instructor : And her husband likes Damascus a lot

هي : وَزَوجُهَا يحبُّ دِمَشْق كَثِيْراً

Instructor : My colleague and her husband are
coming to visit me today

هي : زَمِيلَتِي وزَوجُهَا آَتُونَ لِيَزُورُونِي اليَوْم

Instructor : They're coming at three o'clock

هي : هم آَتُونَ السَّاعَة الثَّالِثَة

Instructor : Do you remember how to ask : what's his name?

هو : مَا اِسْمُه ؟

Instructor : Can you guess how she says : her name is

هي : اِسْمُهَا

Instructor : She says : her name is Electra

هي : اِسْمُهَا اليكترا

هو : قُلْ :

Instructor : I know Electra

هو : أَنَا أَعْرِفُ اليكترا

Instructor : Her husband is American , I know him well

هو : زوجهَا أمريكيّ ، أَنَا أَعْرِفُهُ جَيِّداً

Instructor : She says : you know him ?!

هي : أنتَ تَعْرِفُهُ ؟!

Instructor : Yes and she's American too

هو :نَعَمْ ، وهِيَ أمْرِيكيَّة أيضاً

Instructor : Tell her : yes , his name is Charles I know him well

هو : نَعَمْ اِسْمُه تشارلز ، أَنَا أَعْرِفه جَيِّداً

Instructor : How would she say : no ,
you don't know my colleague

هي : لَا ، أنتَ لا تَعْرِفُ زَمِيلَتِي

Instructor : She's from Damascus , but she lives in Canada now

هي : هِيَ من دِمَشْق ، لَكِنهَا سَاكِنةٌ فِي كَنَدَا الآن

Instructor : My colleague isn't American

هي : زَمِيلَتِي لَيْسَت أمريكيَّة

Instructor : She's coming to visit me from Canada

هي : هِيَ آَتِيَة لتَزُوْرَنِي مِنْ كَنَدَا

Instructor : But her son still lives in Damascus

هي : لَكِن مَازَالَ ابْنُهَا سَاكِن في دِمَشْق

Instructor : My colleague and her husband are
coming to visit me today

هي : زَمِيلَتِي وزَوجُهَا آَتُونَ لِيَزُورُونِي اليَوْم

Instructor : Now ask : what's his name

هو : مَا اِسْمُه ؟

Instructor : She tells you : he's from Canada ,
his name is Sameer

هي : هُوَ مِن كَنَدَا ، اِسْمُه سمير

Instructor : Electra and her husband

هي : الكترا وزَوجُهَا

Instructor : Are coming to visit me today

هي : آَتُونَ لِيَزُورُونِي اليَوْم

Instructor : Her husband likes Damascus a lot

هي : زَوْجُهَا يُحِبُّ دِمَشْق كَثِيْراً

Instructor : She says : I haven't seen my
colleague for a year

هي : لم أرَهَا منذ سَنَة

Instructor : And I haven't seen her husband for two years

هي : وَلَمْ أرَ زَوْجَهَا منذ سَنَتَيْنِ

Instructor : But he's coming today with my colleague

هي : لَكِنَّهُ آتي اليَوْم مَعَ زَمِيلَتِي

Instructor : And with her son

هي : وَمَعَ ابنِهَا

Instructor : I haven't seen Electra for a year

هي : لَمْ أَرَ الكترا منذ سَنَة

Instructor : And I haven't seen Sameer for two years

هي : وَ لَمْ أرَ سمير منذ سَنَتَيْنِ

Instructor : But I saw her son yesterday

هي : لَكِنَّنِي رَأَيْتُ ابنَهَا البَارِحَة

Instructor : I saw him yesterday morning

هي : رَأَيتُه البَارِحَةَ صَبَاحَاً

Instructor : Now your colleague has to leave , she says : bye

هي :بإِذْنِك

Instructor : On another day , remind her : my name is Charles

هو : اِسْمِي تشَارلز

Instructor : Ask her : do you have time to have coffee

هو : هَلْ عندكِ وَقْتاً  لتَشْرَبي قَهْوَة ؟

Instructor : Or a glass of green tea ?

هو : أو كوباً منَ الشَّاي الاَخْضَر ؟

Instructor : She answers : I never drink coffee

هي : أَنَا لا أَشْرَبُ القَهْوَة أبداً

Instructor : But I'd like to drink some tea

هي : لَكِن أَحبُ أَنْ أَشْرَبَ  بَعْضَ الشَّاي

Instructor : Then she looks at her watch and she says
: unfortunately , I still have too much work today

هي : آَسِفَةٌ ، ما يَزَالُ عندي عَمَل كَثِيْر جِدَّاً اليَوْم

Instructor : Now you're speaking with another friend
, you want to invite her to the Arab café for coffee ,
literally to the café of the Arab

هو : إلي مقهي العرب

Instructor : How do you say : the Arab café

هو : مقهي العرب

Instructor : Ask her : would you like to go to the Arab café

هو : هَلْ تُحبِيْنَ أَنْ تذَهّبي إلَى مقهي العرب؟

Instructor : Ask her if she has been to the Arab café

هو : هَلْ ذَهّبتِ إلَى مقهي العرب؟

Instructor : What's the word for " yet " or " still " ?

هي : بَعْدُ

Instructor : She answers : I still don't know the Arab café

هي : لَا أَعْرِفُ مقهي العرب بَعْد

Instructor : Referring to the café say : it's not too far

هو : لَيْسَت بعيدَة كَثِيْراً

Instructor : Would you like to go to the Arab coffee?

هو : هَلْ تُحبيْنَ أَنْ تذَهّبي إلَى مقهي العرب؟

Instructor : I can have coffee

هو : أستطيعُ أَنْ أَشْرَبَ قهوة

Instructor : Or a glass of tea

هو : أَو كوباً  مِنَ الشَّاي

Instructor : Some green tea or red tea

هو : بَعْضَ الشَّاي الاَخْضَر أَوِ الشَّاي الاَحْمَر

Instructor : How does she say : I never drink beer

هي : أَنَا لا أَشْرَبُ البيرَة أَبَدَاً

Instructor : But I would like to have coffee

هي : لَكِنَّ... أَحب أَن أَشْرَب قَهْوَة

Instructor : Later you and your friend are in the café ,
how do you ask her if she has been to Lattakia ,
remember it's literally to the Lattakia

هو : هَلْ ذَهّبتِ إلَى اللَّاذِقِيَّة ؟

Instructor : She answers : unfortunately ,
I haven't seen Lattakia for a year

هي : آَسِفَةٌ ، لَم أرَ اللَّاذِقِيَّة منذ سَنَة

Instructor : The waiter arrives and asks your friend
what she wants , she says I’ll have a glass of red tea

هي : أَشْرَبُ كوباً منَ الشَّاي الاَحْمَر

Instructor : You say : and I'm having coffee

هو : وَأَنَا أَشْرَبُ القهوة

Instructor : Say to the waiter : one coffee and
a glass of red tea , please

هو : وَاحِد قهوة وكوباً مِنَ الشَّاي الاَحْمَر ، مِنْ فَضْلِك

Instructor : Later you and she are leaving
together you see a woman you know , say
: her name is Electra

هو : اِسْمُهَا اليكترا

Instructor : She's Canadian

هو : هِيَ كَنَدِيَّة

هو : قُلْ :

Instructor : I haven't seen her for a year

هو : لَم أرَهَا منذ سَنَة

Instructor : After you stop and talk a while , your friend says
: unfortunately , I have to leave now

هي : آَسِفَةٌ ، يَجِبُ أن أُرحل الآن

Instructor : She says : my friend Mona is coming to visit me

هي : صَدِيْقَتِي منى آَتِيَة لتَزُوْرَنِي

Instructor : Her husband and his daughter are
coming to visit me today

هي : زَوجهَا وابنته آَتُونَ لزيارَتي اليَوْم

Instructor : How does she say : his name is Charles

هي : اسمه تشارلز

Instructor : Charles is here with his older daughter

هي : تشارلز هنَا مَعَ ابنته الكبيرَة

Instructor : Ask her : would you like to go to the Arab café ?

هو : هَلْ تحبيْنَ أنْ تذَهّبي إلَى مقهي العرب؟

Instructor : She says : alright , bye

هي : حَسَنَاً ، بإِذْنِكَ
