هو : اِسْتَمِعَ إِلَى هَذِهِ المُحَادَثَة :

Instructor : John is speaking to his Arab relative Hanaa

Instructor : He asks her :

هو : هَلْ تحبين أَنْ تَأكلي الغَدَاء مَعِي ؟

Instructor : Would you like to have lunch
with me?

هو : استمع :

هو : هناء ، هَلْ تحبين أنْ تَأكلِي العَشَاء مَعِي ؟

هي : لا شُكْرَاً يا جون ، لَيْسَ اليَوْم ، لَقَد أَكَلتُ مَعَ اِبْنِي
في الفُنْدُق  (ملحوظة: بعدم نطق الألف في كلمة ابني بعد مع)

هو : جَيِّد ، إذاً هَلْ تحبين أنْ تأكلي العَشَاء مَعِي
أنتِ واِبْنُكِ غَدَاً ؟ ( الألف في ابنك لا تنطق : ألف وصل )

هي : غَدَاً هُوَ ذَاهِبٌ إِلَى حَلَبَ ، اِبْنِي يريدُ أنْ يَرَى المدينة القَدِيمَة

هو: والآَنَ مَاذَا سَتفعَلين ؟

هي :الآَنَ عندي عَمَل كَثِير

هو : حَسَناً مَعَ السَّلَامَة

هو : حَسَناً مَعَ السَّلَامَة

Instructor : Now you're speaking with a Syrian friend
, she says : my young son is going to Homs

هي : اِبْنِي الصَّغِير ذَاهِبٌ إِلَى حمْص

Instructor : He rented a car this morning

هي : اسْتَأْجَر سَيَّارَة هَذَا الصَّبَاح

Instructor : she says : he's going to Homs

هي : هُوَ ذَاهِب إِلَى حمْص

Instructor : He wants to see his friends

هي : هُوَ يريدُ أنْ يرَى أَصْدِقَاءَه

Instructor : Tell her that your wife also rented a car today

هو :زَوجي أيضَاً اسْتَأْجَرت سَيَّارَة اليَوْم

Instructor : We need a car

هو :نَحْنُ نَحْتَاجُ إِلَى سَيَّارَة

Instructor : We're going to have dinner with our daughter

هو :سَوفَ نأكل العَشَاء مَعَ اِبْنتنا

Instructor : She lives in Hama , in the old town

هو :هي سَاكِنةٌ في حَمَاه في المدينة القَدِيمَة

Instructor : Say that she doesn't need a car in Hama

هو :هِيَ لا تَحْتَاجُ إِلَى سَيَّارَة في حَمَاه

Instructor : But she's going to Aleppo for a few weeks

هو :لَكِنَّها ذَاهِبةٌ إِلَى حَلَبَ لبضعة أسَابِيع

Instructor : Can you guess how your friend would say
: my son lives in Aleppo

هي :اِبْنِي سَاكِنٌ فِي حَلَبَ

Instructor : OR

هي : ابني يسكن ُ في حلب

Instructor : Do you remember how to ask : at what time

هو :في أيِّ سَاعَة ؟

Instructor : Literally you are saying : which time ?
Now how would you ask your friend : which son ?

هو :أيُّ  اِبْن ؟

Instructor : She answers : my young son

هي :اِبْنِي الصَّغِير

Instructor : He lives in Aleppo

هي :هُوَ سَاكِنٌ في حَلَبَ

هو :قُلْ :

Instructor : My wife wants to see our youngest  daughter

هو :زوجتي تُرِيدُ أَنْ تَرَى اِبْنتنا الصغرى

Instructor : Tell her : she lives with her friends

هو :هي سَاكِنةٌ مَعَ أَصْدِقَائِها

Instructor : How does your friend say that her son
lives in Aleppo ?

هي اِبْنِي سَاكِنٌ في حَلَبَ

هو :قُلْ :

Instructor : Our daughter doesn't need a car in Hama

هو :اِبْنتنا لا تَحْتَاجُ إِلَى سَيَّارَة في حَمَاه

Instructor : But we need a car

هو :لَكِن.... نَحْنُ نَحْتَاجُ إِلَى سَيَّارَة

Instructor : We will have dinner with our daughter
in Hama

هو :نَحْنُ سَوفَ نَأكل العَشَاء مَعَ اِبْنتِنَا فِي حَمَاه

Instructor : Tell her : later she's going to Aleppo for a
few weeks

هو :بَعْد ذَلِكَ هي ذَاهِبةٌ إِلَى حَلَبَ لبِضْعَةِ أَسَابِيع

Instructor : Now your friend says good bye to you ,
how do you respond

هو :حفظكِ الله

…. Instructor : She says : bye …literally by your permission

هي : بإِذْنِكْ

هو :قُلْ :

Instructor : bye ….the new form which means literally
.."by your permission "

هي : بإِذْنِك

Instructor : On another day , you and your friend are
discussing a trip , referring to you and your wife ,
how does she ask : did you go to Hama ?

هي :هَلْ ذهبْتُما إِلَى حَمَاه ؟

Instructor : And how would she ask that question
referring to just you ?

هي :هَلْ ذهبْتَ إِلَى حَمَاه ؟

Instructor : Tell her : yes , I had a little time

هو :نَعَمْ ، كَانَ عندي قليلاً من الوَقْت

Instructor : She says : Hama isn't a big city

هي :حَمَاه لَيْسَت مَدِينَةً كَبِيرَةً

Instructor : Agree with her : no , but Damascus is big

هو :لَا ...لكن دِمَشْقُ كبيرة

هو :هِيَ تَسْألُ :

Instructor : What did you do in Hama ?

هي :مَاذَا فَعَلتَ في حَمَاه ؟

Instructor : She asks : did you see the old town ?

هي :هَلْ رأيتَ المدينة القَدِيمَةَ ؟

Instructor : She asks again : what did you do in Hama ?

هي :مَاذَا فعلتَ في حَمَاه ؟

Instructor : Tell her : we didn't have a lot of time

هو :لَمْ يَكُن عندنَا الكَثِير مِنَ الوَقْت

Instructor : We bought some sweets

هو :اشتَرَينَا بَعْضَ الحَلَويَّات

Instructor : She says : Hama isn't a big city

هي :حَمَاه لَيْسَت مَدِينَة كَبِيرَة

هو :قُلْ :

Instructor : No , Damascus is bigger

هو :لا ، دِمَشْق أَكْبَر

Instructor : She says that she has to leave now

هي :يَجِبُ أن أُرحل الآَنَ

Instructor : How does she say good bye to you ?

هي :مَعَ السَّلَامَة

Instructor : And how do you say good bye in response

هو :حفظكِ الله

Instructor : And how would she say : bye …..the new form

هي :بإذْنِكَ

Instructor : A Syrian colleague knows you're visiting from
the united states , how does she ask : are you
here with your wife?

هي :هَلْ أنتَ هُنَا مَعَ زَوجِكَ ؟

هو :أَجِبْ :

Instructor : No , my son is with me

هو :لَا ، اِبْنِي مَعِي

Instructor : How would your colleague ask
: which son ?

هي :أيُّ اِبْن ؟

Instructor : How would your colleague ask
: the older one?

هي :الأكبر ؟

Instructor : She says : which son is with you ?
the older one ?

هي :أي اِبْن مَعَكَ ؟ الأكبر ؟

هو :أَجِبْ :

Instructor : No , my younger son is with me

هو :لا ، اِبْنِي الصَّغِير مَعِي

Instructor : Now she asks you :
what did you do yesterday ?

هي :مَاذَا فعلتَ اليَوْم ؟

Instructor : Tell her : this morning
we ate at the hotel

هو :هَذَا الصَّبَاح نَحْنُ أكَلنَا فِي الفُنْدُق

Instructor : We spoke Arabic with the waiter

هو :تحدثنَا العَرَبِيَّة مَعَ النَّادِل

Instructor : And then we bought some sweets

هو :وبَعْد ذَلِكَ ، اشْتَرَينَا بَعْضَ الحَلَويَّات

Instructor : She says : Aleppo isn't a big city

هي :حَلَبُ لَيْسَت مَدِينَة كَبِيرَة

Instructor : Agreeing  you say : no , Damascus is bigger

هو :لَا ، دِمَشْق أَكْبَر

هو :الآَنَ قُلْ :

Instructor : I saw many things today

هو :رَأَيتُ أشياءً عَدِيدَةً اليَوْم

Instructor : But now I have a lot of work

هو :لَكِن الآَنَ عندي الكَثِير مِنَ العَمَل

Instructor : I have too much work

هو :عندي عَمَلٌ كَثِيرٌ جِدَّاً

Instructor : She says to you : I have to leave now

هي :يَجِبُ أن أُرحل الآَنَ

Instructor : She says good bye , how do you say
good bye in response ?

هو :حفظكِ الله

Instructor : And how would she say : bye …the new form

هي : بإِذْنِك

Instructor : The other day , you and your
colleague are talking about Lattakia

هي :اللّاذِقِيَّة

Instructor : A port city on the western coast
of Syria , she asks : have you been to Lattakia ?

هي :هَلْ ذهبتَ إِلَى اللّاذِقِيَّة ؟

Instructor : To ask if you know Lattakia ,
she would ask : do you know  Lattakia ?

هي :اللّاذِقِيَّة

Instructor : do you know Lattakia ?

هي : هَلْ تَعْرِف اللّاذِقِيَّة ؟

Instructor : How would you answer in the negative ?

هو : لا ، لا أَعْرِفُ اللّاذِقِيَّة

Instructor : Here's the word for " yet "

هو :بَعْدُ

Instructor : Try to say : I don't know Lattakia yet

هو :لا أَعْرِفُ اللّاذِقِيَّة بَعْد

هو :قُلْ :

Instructor : I want to go to Lattakia but

هو : أريدُ أن أَذْهَب إِلَى اللّاذِقِيَّة ولَكِن

Instructor : I haven't had the time yet

هو : لَيْسَ عندي الوَقْت بَعْدُ

Instructor : I had too much work

هو :كَانَ عندي عَمَل كَثِير جِدَّاً

Instructor : She asks if you would like to see Lattakia

هي :هَلْ تُحِبّ أن تَرَى اللّاذِقِيَّة ؟

Instructor : Tell her again : I haven't had the time yet

هو :لَيْسَ عندي الوَقْت بَعْد

Instructor : Your colleague says : it isn't a big city ,
Damascus is bigger

هي :إنها لَيْسَت مَدِينَة كَبِيرَة ، دِمَشْقُ أَكْبَرُ

Instructor : Tell her : my son lives in Lattakia

هو :اِبْنِي سَاكِنٌ فِي اللّاذِقِيَّة

Instructor : She asks : which son ?

هي : أَيّ اِبْن ؟

Instructor : Try to answer : my younger son

هو :اِبْنِي الأصغر

Instructor : But I don't know Lattakia yet

هو : لَكِن لا أَعْرِف اللّاذِقِيَّة بَعْدُ

هو : أَجِبْ :

Instructor : He's living with his friends

هو :هُوَ سَاكِن مَعَ أَصْدِقَائِه

Instructor : How does she ask if you would like to see Lattakia

هي : هَلْ تحب أَنْ تَرَى اللّاذِقِيَّة ؟

Instructor : Now ask her : and you , do you know Lattakia ?

هو : وأنت ِ ؟ هَلْ تَعْرِفين اللّاذِقِيَّة ؟

Instructor : Ask her : did you go to Lattakia ? " or "
have you been to Lattakia ?

هو : هَلْ ذهبتِ إِلَى اللّاذِقِيَّة ؟

Instructor : How do you ask her if she went
to Lattakia ?

هو : هَلْ ذهبتِ إِلَى اللّاذِقِيَّة ؟

Instructor : She says : yes , I went to Lattakia a lot

هي : نَعَمْ ، ذهبتُ إِلَى اللّاذِقِيَّة كَثِيراً

Instructor : Tell her : I haven't been to Lattakia yet

هو : أَنَا لَمْ أَذْهَبْ بَعْدُ إِلَى اللّاذِقِيَّة

Instructor : She asks :but would you like to see Lattakia ?

هي : لَكِن هَلْ تحب أَنْ تَرَى اللّاذِقِيَّة ؟

هو : قُلْ :

Instructor : Yes I want to go

هو : نَعَمْ ، أَرْغَبُ أن أَذْهَب

Instructor : But I haven't had the time

هو : لَكِن لَيْسَ عندي الوَقْت

Instructor : I have too much work

هو : عندي عَمَل كَثِير جِدَّاً

Instructor : And not enough time

هو : ولا يُوجَد وَقْتٌ كَافِي

Instructor : I haven't had the time yet

هو : لَيْسَ عندي الوَقْت بَعْدُ

Instructor : Now your colleague asks you :
do you know Aleppo?

هي : هَلْ تَعْرِفُ حَلَبَ ؟

هو :أَجِبْ :

Instructor : Yes , I went to Aleppo yesterday

هو : نَعَمْ ، ذهبتُ إِلَى حَلَبَ البَارِحَة

Instructor : I had a lot of work

هو : كَانَ عندي الكَثِيرُ من العَمَل

Instructor : I ate in a Syrian restaurant

هو :أكلتُ في مَطْعَمٍ سُورِيٍّ

Instructor : And I spoke Arabic with the waiter

هو :وتَحدثت العَرَبِيَّة مَعَ النَّادِل

Instructor : How does your colleague ask if
you would like to see the city today

هو :هَلْ تُحِبُّ أنْ تَرَى المَدِينَة اليَوْم ؟

Instructor : Tell her that you have too much work today

هو :عندي عَمَل كَثِير جِدَّاً اليَوْم

Instructor : She asks : in any case , tomorrow ?

هي :إذاً ، غَدَاً ؟

Instructor : Try to answer : maybe I don't know yet

هو : رُبَّمَا ، أَنَا لا أَعْرِف بَعْدُ

Instructor : She asks : do you know the fish Restaurant ?

هي : هَلْ تَعْرِفُ مَطْعَمَ السمك ؟

Instructor : You tell her you don't

هو : لا اعرفُ مطعم َ السمك بعد

Instructor : when she says good bye to you ,
how do you respond ?

هو : حفظكِ الله

Instructor : How does she say : bye ….the new form

هي :باِذْنِك

Instructor : Later you go with a friend doing lunch
,she sees someone she knows and says there's a
friend of mine , first just listen :

هي : صَدِيقِتي هناك َ

Instructor : Now hear how she says : A friend of
mine or my friend for a girlfriend

هي :صَدِيقِتي

Instructor : Now hear how she says : there's

هي :هناكَ

Instructor : Pointing him out to you , how does she say
: this is a friend of mine

هي : إنها صَدِيقِتي

Instructor : How does a woman say : my girl friend

هي : صَدِيقِتي

Instructor : She says : there's a friend of mine

هي :  صَدِيقِتي هناك َ

Instructor : She wants to tell you her name , first
 : her name is :

هي : اِسْمُها

Instructor : Try to say : her name is Salwa

هي :اِسْمُها سَلوى

Instructor : Now try to ask : what's her name ?

هو : مَا اِسْمُها ؟

Instructor : she says : her name is Salwa Bakr

هي : اِسْمُها سَلوى بكر

Instructor : Ask again what her name is

هو : مَا اِسْمُها ؟

Instructor : As you and your friend are leaving , she
stopped to greet her , she says : hello , Salwa

هي : مَرْحَبَا ً يَا سَلوى

Instructor : Just heed to you she says : this is
my colleague

هي : هَذَا زميلي

Instructor : Hear how he says : my name is

هو :اِسْمِي

Instructor : Say : my name is Charles  Johnson

هو :اِسْمِي تشارلز جونسون

Instructor :  Charles is a colleague of mine

هي :تشارلز زميلي

Instructor : How does she say : pleased to meet you

هو :تّشَرَّفنا

Instructor : How do you ask what his name is

هو :مَا اِسْمُهُ ؟

Instructor : You talk for a few minutes , then your
girlfriend says : I have to leave

هي :يَجِبُ أن أرحل

Instructor : You say in return …bye

هو : مع السلامة ...

Instructor : how do you say I have too much work

هو :عندي عَمَل كَثِير جِدَّاً

Instructor : Do you remember the word for " late "

هو :مُتَّأَخِّر

Instructor : Now say : the time is late

هو :الوَقْت مُتَّأَخِّر

Instructor : Say in Arabic " the time "

هو :الوَقْت

Instructor : Say again : I have to leave now

هو :يَجِبُ أن أُرحل الآَنَ

Instructor : The time is late

هو :الوَقْت مُتَّأَخِّر

Instructor : I have too much work

هو :عندي عَمَل كَثِير جِدَّاً

Instructor : See you later

هو : بإِذْنِك

Instructor : Later while walking with a friend ,
she saw someone she knows across the street ,
she says : there's my colleague Mazen

هي :  زميلي مَازن هناك َ

Instructor : You didn't hear her , ask her what
his name is

هو :مَا اِسْمُهُ ؟

Instructor : She tells you : his name is Mazen Aziz

هي :اِسْمُهُ مَازن عزيز

Instructor : She takes you in front of him and says :
he is a colleague of mine

هي :هُوَ زميلي

Instructor : Now the man says : my name is Mazen Aziz

هو :اِسْمِي مَازن عزيز

Instructor : How do you say that you're pleased to see him

هو :تَشَرَّفنا

Instructor : Say that your name is Charles Johnson

هو :اِسْمِي تشارلز جونسون

Instructor : Your friend says : Charles is a colleague of mine

هي :تشارلز زميلي

Instructor : After you speak for a few minutes ,
she says excuse me , but I have to leave now

هي :عَفْوَاً ، لَكِن يَجِبُ أَنْ أُرحل الآَنَ

Instructor : How does Mazen say : bye …the new form

هو :بإذْنِك

Instructor : As you leave together , she tells you again
: his name is Mazen Aziz

هي :اِسْمُهُ مَازن عزيز

Instructor : And how does she tell you that he is a
colleague of hers

هي :هُوَ زميلي
